I'm guessing it's a one-day thing, like all their special logos. It's more of a "hey, did you notice this feature?" thing. Mine currently is... a bunch of exercise balls floating in a swamp? What?

I only even see the Google main page when someone says there's something special on it. Search bar FTW.

I do, however, have Stylish changing all Google search places to a nice dark blue.

They've actually shown remarkable restraint over the years, compared to other companies who have had no problem slathering their sites with obnoxious Flash ads, rearranging their entire site structure at the drop of a hat, or even dropping services entirely with little warning (Yahoo! GeoCities, anyone?). Yet any time they so much as shift a toolbar by more than a few pixels (or, heaven forbid, spruce up their very plain front page a little), everyone's all ARRRGH GOOGLE WHY YOU GOTTA GO RUINING MY WEB EXPERIENCE??!?!? I just...don't get it. There are much more worthwhile things to rage about than background images. ____________________

Google is kinda like a pillar of constancy on the internet. Where literally everyone else hops on the web 2.0 bandwagon, they've stuck with their own rules. Whenever there's any kind of a suggestion that Google will go the way of the 2.0, it's understandable that people freak out.

Last week, we launched the ability to set an image of users' choosing as the background for the Google homepage. Today, we ran a special "doodle" that showcased this functionality by featuring a series of images as the background for our homepage. We had planned to run an explanation of the showcase alongside it-in the form of a link on our homepage. Due to a bug, the explanatory link did not appear for most users. As a result, many people thought we had permanently changed our homepage, so we decided to stop today's series early. We appreciate your feedback and patience as we experiment and iterate.

	I saw the link at the bottom, but on some of the pictures you could not read it clearly. It was fairly small font, too. If they want to add a feature like that, make it come up initially then fade away and have a nice big link to the explanation. ____________________
