I know Windows XP is not a game at all , but there's still some interesting stuff in it.

For example, setupapi.dll has an animation using the beta "shopping bag" recycle bin icon. There are also various references to Whistler Server (what would later become Windows Server 2003) scattered about.

Also, "The computer got very poorly and decided to end its own suffering".

The Task Manager's popup menus are titled Banana, Apple, Peach, Hydra and Pear (even translated to Poire in French, but not the rest )

Some of the files also had comments (in things like XML based layouts), or sometimes source paths, although I forgot about most of them ...

setupdll.dll has all the Windows NT advertising images in it, plus the background image from Windows 95.

It's surprising how that made it into Windows XP. Apparently, they really have no issues with wasting space and memory.

I remember reading on an MS dev blog that the XP disc used several copies of Microsoft Bob, encrypted with random keys, as padding. To help prevent piracy (make the download bigger) the installer would check the disc for this data.

I hate to bump this since it's useless anyway but it's better than creating a new topic, so oh well.

In the syssetup.dll, there's this:
Windows 2002 Server

What is that? Did they actually plan to name the XP Server Windows 2002 Server? Or was this a purported successor?

Also, there's stuff relating to removing components while afaik, you cannot change the system components during setup in Windows XP. Also, there's some other suspicious stuff in this particular file.

EDIT: there's an unused error message which includes a private mail address from one of the Microsoft developers... how cool is that?
