| I used to think that exercise was just for jocks and was a superfluous thing, but once you start doing it regularly, it's surprising to see how much it helps your life overall--although starting always sucks. It really helped fix my horribly broken sleep schedule, forced me to eat nutritious (but delicious) foods and even get to know a lot of interesting new people. I'm still far from being slim and trim, but it's amazing how welcoming people have been once they see you making the effort. Skinny people have it worse, ostensibly, because fat people have to build muscle just to get around (unless they barely do that even). I think it sort of evens out since skinny people don't have to worry about ridicule or humiliation as much, but in the end it doesn't matter since almost everyone can be healthy if they want to. |

| Glad to see someone doing something to make themselves feel better. You may be tired from that walk now, but if you keep doing it, your legs will get used to it and you can walk further distances than before without being as tired. |

Glad you went though with this. Makes you feel alive doesn't it? I took a year of Tae Qwon Do back when I was in high school and I felt great after "Boot Camp". Basically, I signed up for it during my training and after 5 weeks of basic 6AM-7PM non stop training, oh God. After the camp I felt great. Not only that but I lost 10 pounds and gained 14 pounds of muscle mass. ____________________ __________________________________ ![]()

I like warming up with a quick run/bike ride, some pullups, then some deadlifts, squats and bench presses--lately I've been trying powerlifting, the stuff they do in the olympics and it's not as easy as it looks, but a lot of fun nonetheless. You don't have to give up cardio entirely when you're building muscle, and lifting every other day is probably the most I'd advise anyways. So you can run on off days unless you're superhuman in which case you run, lift and save the world everyday. Evil waits for no one. A last word, if you're a girl you should lift too! Obviously, you won't get all bulky unless you start doing steroids, but all the stuff about weight loss and metabolism applies to women as well. Everyone has the right to feeling good, regardless of gender or shapeliness. |

| I think I might be competition for Metal_Man in the "strangely underweight" area, 6'0" and around 130 lbs(it floats around there, I've been bouncing back and forth between 127 and 133 for a few years), though no walk-stories from me, being a cross-country runner makes walking seem a little not-scary. I also should probably start doing a little bit of lifting, though I'm an alright runner, I have no upper body strength at all. Although I'm not very interested in gaining muscle, it's pretty pathetic to have even minor difficulty lifting two gallons of liquid at once. ____________________ Backloggery is so backlogged itself that it is meaningless!
