I get the older one, in both Firefox 3.5 and Opera 10.10 ... and I'd say that's a good thing, while it lasts
 Also, when trying in Internet Explorer 6, I get this: On March 13, we are dropping support for your browser. You'll still be able to watch videos after that date, but new features may not work properly. I guess something related to this will happen in 3 days  ____________________ |

That layout does suck, but it doesn't look like that for me. Oh well, there'll be a Firefox extension to fix it when it breaks anyway. Now if only there was an extension to make the videos actually play properly and not crash the browser when finished.  ____________________

...except they use H.264 as their encoding, which is also proprietary and needs licensing fees to be implemented into browsers.

x.264 might solve that, but yes, HTML5 does need a free format as the standard. It's just a few jerks like Apple and (guess what) Google who refuse to support such open formats. (At least with Youtube they have some reason for it... not everyone has that excuse though.) ____________________

I do kinda like h.264 as it's the technological superior... I think it'll just end up being kinda like how plug-ins work nowadays where you download a separate unofficial codec to get it to work... either provided by MPEG themselves or libavcodec or something
It still doesn't solve some problems such as things not being in a "just works" state upon installation, but it will remove the reliance on a heavy flash player backend improving performance and compatibility with non-x86 handhelds and consoles. So I don't think it really matters whether they select theora or h.264... but I'm hoping for h.264. ____________________ |
