It's odd, as a nonreligious person one would think I wouldn't have superstitions either, but I have a few. One of them is, for some reason I don't want to go to bed at night (naps are OK) with a Jul post count ending in 0. If it ends in 0 I try to find 1 more thing to post in. Another thing is mirrors, when I pass one I usually want to look at it directly as I pass.

Maybe it's just OCD or something.

Anyway, does anyone else have anything like that?

This one is actually something psychological they proved in most people. One reason hotels (and most places) put mirrors on the doors to elevators is because it draws you in to looking at them, thus cutting down the time it takes for the elevator to arrive (at least in your mind).

I'm not sure if I would call this a superstition, and I don't believe it myself, but lately my school has been talking about this "Lucky Penny" thing, where if you find a penny on the floor that has landed on heads, you pick it up and give it to the nearest person and it will give both of you good luck.

I've never really believed many superstitions.

I'm a fairly logical person, except for placebo.

I believe that you can perform better if you go into something with a good mindset.

But I also believe that things that you can't logically perform better at such as luck, can still be better with a good mindset.


And it doesn't really fit me.

When I pick up a coin off the ground, if it's tails up I tend to flip it over first before picking it up

I'll also go to the Aldi and find carts that people were too lazy to return/hook up properly for the $0.25. I know it's tiny amounts of money, but it adds up. A couple of times I've even found $20 bills on the ground

I once found a $20 bill on the ground next to the road. I was having a bit of bad luck throughout the day before I found it.

A few years before I started going to school, I've always felt that if I thought about it hard enough, I would be able to get what I wanted. Anything involving luck, if I thought about it, I would get it, like if I was psychic or something. I learned almost immediately in school that it wasn't the case, because I would try it again later and it'll have the opposite effect.

I'm glad I don't believe in this stuff most of the time.

I used to believe in superstitious things, but as I got older, logic was the only thing that made sense to me anymore.

Believing in something I thought to give me good luck didn't always result in fortune, "praying to God" didn't always fix problems, etc. I eventually came to the conclusion that none of these things did much other than bolster your hope for the positive outcome(s). In due time, I just deemed that everything was a result of probability.

Of course, if believing in "superstitious" things makes you feel good and gives you a better ability to persevere through life, then by all means, believe.

I am religious but I also think it's fun to have some superstitions.

For example instead of trying to avoid thinking of awful things that might happen, I should in fact think about them to jinx them. It usually works.
