Well, I've had this avatar to the left forever. ShaddowK just randomly drew it once before he/she was banned, and I colored it primitively.

But ultimately it has become rather old and some people call it an eyesore.

Now, I have a whole ton of reference stuff to make a new image with, so that the next one is ultimately awesome, but the issue is... which artist? Who to draw it?

So this is a dual, perhaps triple purpose thread.
1. I'd be interested in seeing what any interested Jul people would be able to draw based on the reference--if it's good enough, it will replace this thing on the left at countless sites.
2. I've considered commissioning an artist to do it, but I'm unsure which one would be the best. The issue is from the small selection I've looked at, Metal Man exists in a bizarre gap between mecha and people which makes it tricky, because I'd want his face to come out, but I'd also want his armor to look all shiny and techno-y.
3. I will display various pictures/art to various act as references or explain things about this character where relevant.

MASSIVE image, watch out (Reference image)

As for the picture's pose, that'd be Metal Man standing, holding the shotgun over his right shoulder with his right hand, and left foot/side partially closer to the viewer with the left hand on his left hip, and the usual crazy look; and a stock lighting thing, coming diagonally from the above left. He'd have the crazy expression on his face as well, though also obviously be determining a new target.

Can I make an artistic criticism?

Sure, anything I've drawn is a dodgy mess, and while I have many skills, artistic vision... is not one of them. :p

Indeed, one person already told me it was rather Rob Liefeldian--in truth, probably because I've had a hard time coming up with an image to match the miles of text in my forehead.

Alrighty, just wanted to make sure it wouldn't offend you.

If you want to go with a more intimidating look, I'd highly recommend keeping your face hidden from view. Maybe it's because I'm a dragon ( ), but that psycho face thing just looks really silly to me.

I thought so too, yet it brings some kind of charismatic charm with it as well.

Funny you say that, it actually depends on what pose Metal Man is in;

The first thing I'd get would show his face, but on the other hand the more evil/nasty ones probably wouldn't. Except for a 'crazy' one, where of course, his crazy face would be even crazier.

So, actually, that is a good idea, just that for the 'neutral-ish' pose, it'll be visible, as well as for any of them that are neutral or positive in emotion.

The alt attribute should be used to give a short description
of an image; longer descriptions should be given with the
longdesc attribute which takes a URL linked to the description.
These measures are needed for people using non-graphical browsers.

For further advice on how to make your pages accessible
see http://www.w3.org/WAI/GL.
You are recommended to use CSS to specify the font and
properties such as its size and color. This will reduce
the size of HTML files and make them easier to maintain
compared with using <FONT> elements.

You are recommended to use CSS to control line wrapping.
Use "white-space: nowrap" to inhibit wrapping in place
of inserting <NOBR>...</NOBR> into the markup.
