Can you multitask?

I've found that I can multitask online, but only to a limited degree. I can work on school or job stuff while browsing Jul, but not with IRC or Livestream running. Hence why I often quit IRC for the night and then show up on Jul a while later Sometimes I even play a video game with AIM or IRC going on too, but usually not with posting. I'm not sure why.

At work, yes, I am pretty good at multitasking.

At home I usually like to focus on one thing at a time to make my mind rest.

Right now I only have three tabs open. Although I only need one (And that is to post here) the other two are facebook (Trillian solves this problem for me if I get an update), and Youtube to listen to music.

So this is a yes or no answer from me.

I'm usually on Jul and IRC at once, while doing other things or even playing Pangya, so that should count as multitasking ... my desktop usually looks like this, in fact that was just now


Now if you really wanted to get insane with extreme multitasking, you can try running a dozen emulators + a dozen programs all at once

I don't usually multitask.

I currently have only a few windows open, but I usually just check Jul, IRC and probably one other thing. Most of the time, I'm playing something that doesn't use the computer, so I don't really try to do things on there as well.

I always have IRC open when doing things so I guess that counts as multitasking. When I hack though, I have 5-6 programs open at once, most of them related to hacking.

I get driven fucking crazy if I'm not multitasking.

Unfortunately, this includes talking to someone else while in classes taking notes.

...Fortunately, this has little to no effect on my ability to get the important things down.

I can multitask, but I don't like doing it too much. I'll just glide from one program to another when the time is right, then switch back again once I'm somewhat bored of that. RPG multitasking, on the other hand, is something I made up and is actually loads of fun, especially when grinding.

I am very happy. This is a lie.
I can't multitask becouse ([trope=CloudCuckooLander]long thought proccess[/trope] [trope=WikiWalk]involving trains[/trope]) I get stuck in TVTropes. Or a similar place in my head if I can't access TVTropes.

... What I mean is that I pay more attention to one of the things and things get worse from there as I start to wonder about it. Though I don't forget about the other things, just don't pay attention to them until later.

Guess how long took me to post this and to see the contents of any of the other windows again.

I can only multitask on easier things, say being on the phone while going to the stove, preparing easier meals and such (I just suck at that 'trapping your handset between shoulder and ear'). But as far as reading a book, listening to music or even having the television running it just disturbs me. Understanding easier book is no that much of a problem (while doing anything where you won't take the eyes off your book obiously ), but any more complicated literature is quite troublesome, when trying to listen to music simultaneously, too.

On the computer, personal multitasking is limited to idling in IRC, running Winamp and a browser, probably putting up a document where I need information. But that's it, really. More or less serious work or even games are pretty much single tasks for me, only.
