My school started them in middle school, but we moved around so much back when I was in elementary school that different schools may have done different things that I forgot/was unaware of.

There were also similarly mandatory band concerts. I'm not talking Beatles tributes or anything like that, I'm talking like orchestra.

I passed the online assessment exam for a job at a K-Mart 6 miles away WHERE YOU CAN RIDE OFF INTO THE FUCKING SUNSET, but there aren't any interview dates available until at least 3/17.

A few years ago I missed out on a job because the person who would have hired me went on vacation and apparently forgot about me.

I figure I might be unemployed for quite a while after moving. I'm less than hopeful in this economy.

I still think I have much better odds there than here though.

I don't exactly equate "working at Kmart" to "taking an exam". Plus I dunno how you'd have a pass and a fail on an online assessment for a job.

I've never had to take an online assessment exam for work, not even for when I applied at other places to work when my Play N Trade was closing =/

But still, I wouldn't mind taking such an exam if I had to...

I haven't had exams like that either. In fact, neither of the 2 jobs I got required an interview, although I have interviewed for many jobs I didn't get.

Probably I didn't need interviews because both times I was hired by people who knew me already

Given the choice between interview and exam, I'd take the interview. You at least want to know who you're hiring; someone can be good at the job but might be impossible to work with.

Me too, I'm worried I'm going to like, fail an internship or something because I think I interview in a mediocre fashion.

Which sucks, because I'm pretty decent in one-on-one conversations.

I don't like them because I don't like being put on the spot, plus it gives employers an excuse to not hire someone based on appearance, like if they have a tattoo or green hair or something, or they can't afford clothes nice enough.

Speaking of exams, I think I may have fucked up even more on trying to get my A+. Apparently the exam I did pass was the standard price version, but if I took the version given out to people in school learning this stuff or whatever. I learned this after scheduling my second half, which I learned was the educational version or the voucher wouldn't take.

So I emailed CompTIA to see if my A+ would still count. It'd better, or else I'm going to wonder why being around one deviation above the norm IQ wise seems to have made me INCREDIBLY STUPID everywhere else.

Ugh. I can converse to people as well as a plank of wood. Seriously, that weakness gets me bossed around to no end.
Also, assessment exams for jobs suck, since getting back the result or e-mail saying you failed the exam really puts a dent on one's self-esteem. :|
