I figure that if I can mostly make it with no car in Detroit of all places (my mom occasionally drives me places when she visits me), I can make it in any city I'd actually want to live in 
And I get car insurance offers too. I have no licence, just a State of Michigan ID that takes its place.

I'm in a small town in South Carolina, so a car is kinda mandatory ... I don't have one, and that's why I'm getting kicked out. No way to get to and from a job.

Same here -- I live in an area where the nearest city is about 45 minutes from here. From 2003 to 2007, I traveled back and forth 80 miles everyday -- so oil changes happened frequently. I'm glad I don't do that right now.

My dad is like that. He works in Warren (a pretty close suburb of Detroit) and lives about 100 miles from Detroit, so he has ridiculous commutes.

For Oil, your best bet is probably to learn how to do it yourself. Or know somebody who does. It's a pretty easy process, and saves you time, effort, money, and stress.
It can be a bit of a pain in the ass, though.
Don't a lot of places offer oil replacements for $20, also? ____________________ |
