I "think" you should PM XKeeper or Anya about this.

See that link that says "Edit profile"? Guess what's the first option.

(Nevermind that firefox tends to auto-fill that field and ends up changing it to whatever it wants everytime you edit your profile.)

You can change your passwords by going to edit profile. If you use firefox, it might ask you if you want to save this as your new password.

Wait, you mentioned another site. Are you talking about your password on Jul or elsewhere?

Elsewhere, but it's same Username/Password... (as well as every other forum that I go to...)

Honestly, I never saw that button... I've been searching for it for 3 days...

Is there a way to retrieve your information by way of e-mail? A lot of sites have this.

Worse case, you might have to make a new account. Unless you are able to contact an administrator.

Their site was hacked (GBATemp) and about 400 accounts' passwords were deciphered... Mine was one of them...

My account wasn't compromised, but my password was, along with my email address... I was able to change passwords for everything before damage was done, but I want to change all of them... (this is one of them)

edit: email below

Hello,

This is Costello, website administrator of the www.GBAtemp.net boards.
We are very sorry to infom you that our forums were hacked earlier today, and the hackers were able to decypher passwords from over 400 accounts, yours unfortunately being one of them.

Not only have the hackers have decyphered your password, but they also know your e-mail address (the one I am using to contact you right now is taken directly from the list generated by the hackers) and as such your e-mail account may be compromised too – if you used the same passwords for both your e-mail and GBAtemp account.

It is recommended that you change your GBAtemp and e-mail account passwords IMMEDIATELY to avoid further damage.
Also make sure to change any account that would use this password. It is highly advised not to use this password ever again.
A statement will be issued on our forums in the next couple of hours.

Please accept our most sincere apologies for the inconvenience, we are doing our best to limit damage at the moment and trying to make sure other parts of our website haven’t been compromised too.

Best regards,

Costello

That sucks. Sorry to hear that.

Well, if you're unable to change your password here, then just send me a private message with what you want as your new password and I'll change it for you.

I got it... My ad blocker kept blocking the (Jul) logo and the bar below it...
(Logout - Edit profile - Item shop - Post radar - Favorites) bar...

That's a pretty failtastic blocker. Who knows what other important things it's blocking?

This is a good reason to use a program like KeePassX and generate random gibberish passwords.

Oh dear...Thanks for the information. I registered for GBAtemp back in 2003 and my email was typo'd I'm just now learning, so I have no idea if I was compromised or not. Chances are high since I have a very low user number. Time to contact some admins :|

I made an account there once to ask a question. I don't even remember the password. Maybe I should ask them?

Seems like I'm fine since I'm a high number. I saw no email in my inbox.

This is why MD5 should not be used and something more difficult to crack would be much better.

At least it's better than "Bilddagboken", a swedish diary type site used by almost all teenagers here that saved all passwords in plain text.

But yeah, the more encryption the better, and from my experience encrypting things aren't that hard.

Or, for that matter, Acmlm's back in the day. I remember a hacking event in early 2002 in which Tomguy (an admin then) would ban people who didn't change their passwords.

I remember that as well. There was a list of people who didn't change their password and they were banned.

Honestly, I like the way Residentevilfan did their forum at one time. You HAD to have a specific cookie in your browser's cookie folder to log in to your account, and each account as a different cookie.
