For those of you with trees, what kind is it?

I go with an artificial tree, as I live in a high-rise and have no car Plus I can use the same tree each year and it's already strung with lights. My parents get a real tree, although they have like 4 fake trees too, so it's like a Christmas forest in there.

Mine is around 6 ft or 2 m and has multicoloured lights

Real. Seven feet or so.

I was going to actually bother decorating the tree with ornaments, but my mother got around to it before I did.

Yea, I have an artificial tree here, with only minimal white lights... it's around 4 ft or 1.22 m

I picked it up for this year at a nearby Kmart, since I didn't have one for the past couple of years

Mine is fake. My uncle and I put up one that has a whole bunch of masonry symbols on it.

I have one ornament with a goat kicking off someone. Needless to say, that was quite hilarious.

My mom has used the same artificial tree ever since she was living in an apartment in the 70's, and it's still in very good shape.

We have two artificial trees, one a 7 foot or so and the other a 8-9 foot. The 7 foot goes in the front window and the bigger one goes in the family room.

Every single year of my parents marriage until last year, we've used a real tree with a base that is pretty much as old as the angel that sits on top of it (if not approx. 5 years younger.) This year, we've gotten an artificial tree. The reasoning behind it was that to get a real tree plus replacing the ageing base was quite costly ($>$100CAD?) and getting an artificial tree the same size that lasts for 5-10 years costs much less. I have yet to see it, but it should be nice looking from what I heard from my father. Unfortunately, I will miss that Christmas Tree smell.

I don't even have an angel or a star on my tree

And, yea, my kitten hasn't really been picking at the tree, luckily

Fake one for me. We never get a real tree only because we can't keep anything alive around in this house that is a plant.

I don't use a tree topper, although my parents used a star that I allegedly picked out as a little kid, for 10 years or so. They bought another one eventually.

I don't remember my mom's cat causing problems with the trees, but maybe she's used to them (we did get her around Xmas).

Jin Dogan is Muslim, IIRC, so he probably doesn't have one either

Then again, I'm atheist and have a tree (my parents were Christian).

My tree's real.
It's about 5 and a half feet tall, which is roughly the same height as I am.

Artificials.

I think we have two that are two or three feet tall each, not quite sure. Used to have a 7-8 foot artificial, but... it died or something in 2002. :|

Our Christmas tree has always been artificial since a real tree would trigger my dad's allergies. I don't mind it though, it means that we don't have to worry about going out and buying one and then trying to figure out some way to get it into the house .

I have a small (~4') artificial tree in my apartment, and a larger one (~7') in the house. I can't have a real tree because someone's allergic to the pollen it would give off, or something like that. The tree in the house is being a PitA this year, though. About half of the lights decided to give up on us, and it would cost so much to replace the bulbs and wiring that we're unravelling all of the pre-strung lights, and will just decorate it as if it's a real tree, once that's done, probably with LEDs. It's taking forever though. We probably wouldn't bother if it wasn't such a nice artificial tree.

I would love to have a real tree. I miss it. Clean-up is actually pretty easy if you put it 'inside'/on top of an opened tree-size garbage bag, and then hide that under a tree skirt. At the end of the season, you move the skirt, and just pull the bag up over the tree. Of course, you can always buy a live, plantable one, but from what I've seen, those cost a bunch, especially if they're full-sized (6+'), and then you really have to take care of it, not to mention planting it later.

As for cats, we have two in our apartment, and two in the house. In the house, one of the cats likes to climb into the tree, but she's usually very, very careful about it. She barely even makes the ornaments move. The other cat.. well, we'll see (he's new this year).

In our apartment, with the small tree, the one cat (also new this year) just kind of rubs her face on the branches, and the other cat mostly ignores it. I know some cats are more crazy about having a tree up, so if you're worried about it, you could always get one and hang unbreakable ornaments on it. We started with unbreakables just to see how our new cat would react, and have been layering our other ornaments onto it as time goes by. It also helps if the ornaments at the bottom of the tree are all unbreakable, just for 'security,' in case they decide they want to play with something shiny after all. We also tied the tree to the table it's sitting on, just in case. :p As long as you don't hang things that your cat associates with being a toy (for us that means tassel things, tinsel, etc.), it should be fine. You might get some reactions like this if they've never seen a tree before, so just watch them for the first bit after putting it up. ;D (This is, of course, assuming you do want a tree up... heheh.)

Out of curiousity, do you guys decorate your trees to be pretty, or to use ornaments that have sentimental meaning to you? (Or both? Neither? Don't care?) I'm finding it interesting to decorate with my SO because his Christmas traditions/memories and mine are very different, which has got me thinking about that. It's kind of cool to realize why a tradition is so important to you, or even that it is important. :3

My parents are the ones with the sentimental ornaments, so I decorate mine to look pretty I suck at putting on tinsel/icicles though.

I find it funny how we have Xmas ornaments, but no tree. I wonder if we'll get any more this year.
