And I don't mean run of the mill fears. What's the one thing that, if confronted, makes you want to shit bricks?

Me, it's fire. I don't like fireplaces or campfires, and I get worried when the fire on the stove doesn't exactly match what it should be, and makes me somewhat hesitant of plugging things into walls out of fear that "that one spark" will start an electrical or wall fire. Also candles and lighters I sort of have an aversion to.

As of now, I am still checking that wall outlet and seeing if there's any flickering coming out of it after that very odd spark that came out of a plug neck happened.

I have an off/on hatred of sharp things. Mostly when wielded by other people.

I tend to avoid people who are cutting if I can, and really don't like it when they use knives nearby. (Doing so while eating dinner, however, seems to have no effect -- it's mostly if it's used anywhere else or being carried around the kitchen)

Tornadoes. I have this really intense, irrational fear of them--I feel mildly anxious seeing depictions of them. If I ever witnessed one in real life, lord knows how I'd react. I like thunderstorms, and other natural disasters don't really bother me nearly as much (of course, I wouldn't want to be caught in one), but there's something about the idea of a GIANT FUCKING SWIRLING VORTEX OF DOOM that really bothers me.

Embarrassment is sort of another one, although to be honest, I'm so used to being in a constant state of shame that I'm not quite sure it qualifies as a fear anymore.

Not many strong fears now, so can I tell you about some from my childhood?

I used to be afraid of anything that could be poisonous. I would run past things like cleaner and motor oil bottles while covering my mouth. One thing that really got me scared was a bag of charcoal my mom kept in the middle of a hallway to a particular room of the house. I would edge around the corner very carefully, facing the wall and covering my mouth to avoid the Evil Charcoal of DeathTM. And my mom apparently wanted to teach me a Life Lesson to Overcome My FearsTM rather than, say, moving the charcoal bag elsewhere.

Another one I still have somewhat today, but much less, is a fear of heights. Maybe because I lived in a 1-floor house growing up and went to 1-floor schools, but for a while even the 2nd floor would be scary for me. Most of that fear has faded over time though, and now it only resurfaces if there's nothing between myself and the outside world: no wall, no pane of glass, no window screen. Like when I tried to climb a huge church tower in Germany that had windows with no glass. *shudder* Awesome view from the top though.

Now, I'm afraid of stuff like gangsters with guns and medical malpractice (the latter killed one of my grandfathers).

I hate heights. I get vertigo over a 10-ft drop. And, I walked a road bridge twice. Both times scared the living shit out of me

Same. My fear of them started when I had a dream/nightmare of one when I was younger. Freaked the hell out of me.

Fast forward to present time. I started to watch Storm Chasers on Discovery. It followers people who chase tornadoes.

A few weeks ago I had another dream with a tornado in it, and I wasn't scared. I actually knew what I had to do. I think watching that show really helped me a lot.

Exactly this. It's just unnerving to know that if they trip or slip just the right way it could possibly be the end of you.

I used to have a weird fear of lava in games. That's long since passed, though just remembering it kinda freaks me out very slightly.

Are you a ligyrophobe like me? I hate loud, sharp noises and anything that produces them. They literally make me feel like someone jerked my stomach or hit me in the solar plexus.

I think so. Guns and that sort of stuff won't scare me though, I know they'll make the sound when you pull the trigger. BUT GOD FORSAKEN BALLOONS

Well spiders are freaking amazing, but I hate them with a passion. I mean i can stand them in a box, but if someone has one in there hand and try to give it to me to hold, I'll say no and yet they chase after me with it on there hand.

I used to freak out over worms. I would dread going to and from school or out for recess in the rain because of the worms. I still don't like them, but usually I pretty much ignore them now. I'd also be afraid of daddy longlegs (largish spider-looking things, although I don't think they're actually spiders).

Why be afraid of those? They are harmless to the human skin, unless you have an open sore on you where they are crawling. There fun to just let them crawl around on your arm and such.

Even tho they are the most poisonous spiders around, and for some reason. . . . Those are the only spiders I'm not afraid of.
