Some people here mentioned that they didn't like Christmas decorations and music too early in the year. How soon is too soon for you?

I'd say early November is too early for me, as it's barely after Halloween, but I'm fine with Christmas stuff in mid-November, even before Thanksgiving. Then again, I grew up in a household involving my father, who would probably have 365 days of Christmas a year if he could (Yes, 366 in leap years, too) He's known for sometimes never taking stuff down. He bought an Xmas house in July and left it up the rest of the year

However, and this doesn't affect me much now that I so rarely listen to the radio, I think stations have been switching to 100% Xmas music way too early in recent years. When I was a kid, all-Xmas music was pretty much only for Christmas Eve and part of Christmas Day. Then, sometime around 2000-ish, certain stations would usually play nothing but Christmas songs in December, most of November, and sometimes even October That's too much. Xmas music should be the occasional song, maybe once an hour or so, until Christmas Eve (if the station plays it at all).

It's never too early for me!

I still have my decoration on up in my room since last year and Christmas music is always in my playlist!

For crying out loud, people, wait until December 1st! Having Halloween stuff on one side of an aisle and Christmas stuff on the other (the retail version of Armageddon?) is just. plain. WRONG.

It should wait until mid-late November.

I can't understand the people who get really pissed off about Christmas decorations and such being up early, though...

I don't have a problem with seeing Christmas stuff early, like in October, but I don't actually try to do anything Christmas related until mid-December.

Though the Christmas music being played so early can be a little annoying.

It should wait until at least after Thanksgiving. But at the store where I work, we're slowly becoming desensitized to the Christmas music already. Hopefully we'll all learn to ignore it before too long but it is extremely annoying at first.

Personally I'd wait until the day after Thanksgiving. Makes sense, anyway, as it's about a month.

Also, none of you have any room to start bitching about boohoo Christmas decorations in October. Somewhere down here had them out in July.

Hearing the mention of things being put up in July made me wonder just what's too late according to most people, as well.

I've heard people whine about decorations being up past a single week in January before...

It should start on the day after Thanksgiving and not a day sooner.

I dislike it when they have there Christmas stuff up before December is even here. I would say the rigth time to put all that stuff up is right at December 1st.

It kinda annoys me to see it up when its still early November and it hasn't been Thanksgiving yet. Maybe if it was like a day or two after Thanksgiving, I wouldn't mind it at all.

I say that while it is early, Thanksgiving week, pre-Thanksgiving is soon enough for XMas to start rolling along.

My mom was playing Christmas music today on the stereo.

There is no snow outside.

A few houses have already put up their decorations.

In summary: WAY too early, or at least it feels like it. Give me another week or so...

THIS. Dear every store ever: stop killing Christmas by bringing out the decorations/music/etc half a goddamn year in advance. If it's not December yet and you're having Christmas sales and decorating your stores, fuck you.

As for you geniuses who decorate your homes before December... you're not helping -.-

Same opinion as Anya.

The sad thing is, they wouldn't keep putting it out so early if there wasn't a demand for it.

Most people are off on the day after Thanksgiving. Instead of running people over due to a sale at the mall, spend time with family and put up your decorations. The world is so messed up.

Shiny new layout!
----------------------------------------------------

My general question is "whatever happened to actually being able to celebrate the holiday before you get to holiday x"

I mean seriously, leading up to and after halloween it's just a giant jumble of different holidays

Stores (and people) really need to just learn to wait.

Paulguy's Post configuration
I personally don't really care either way. But it does seem kinda silly to put stuff out so early, but anything that'll make them a few extra bucks, they'll do.

How early is too early?

I'd say 3/4ths through October, when you start seeing Halloween costumes and Christmas decorations in adjoining aisles. I say as well, wait until half way through November to start getting the decorations out. There's no need for having your Christmas decorations up and even lighted a month before December. It's just annoying.

The day after Thanksgiving is free game for Christmas decor, music, etc.

Let's take the holidays one at a time, thanks.
