I'm sure you know I've joined JuL a few months ago, but don't think about that.


I'm z-byte, and I've popped up in other related places as well. I like to play sports, study, and meet new friends and sup with them. At my computer, I like ROM Hacking, and I play other non-emulation related games to. I like shifting land and all that, which explains why I make maps so well.


So how did I get mixed in with all this buzz? I was bored one day, and I can't remember which month, maybe February, March, or April, and maybe even May. Anyway, I remembered the feeling of playing Super Mario Bros. 3 on my NES, and looked it up on YouTube. I watched some parts of it, then I found "Chaos Control", which looked just like it, with new levels and everything, and I looked puzzled. To make a long story short, I spent a couple of weeks fiddling with Game Maker and Mario Builder, and was sad that it wasn't the same. I finally knew about ROM hacking a very very small bit (only levels and colors!). Then I posted a comment on one of Quick Curly's videos, and we became friends, and he introduced me into the real ROM Hacking experience, then I got my hands on the SMB3 Map Editor and all that stuff, and nothing was ever corrupted.


So he referred me to Board 2, with some information he gave. I possibly would not have embarked upon these civilizations this soon, if at all, if I hadn't received information about it.


Okay, so when I have time and am not drowned my other cool activities, I'll definitely enjoy ROM Hacking and stomping around a bit. I'm always eager to meet new (probably straight) people!

I've seen some of your posts already, but welcome to Jul, z-byte

As for me, I used to draw Mario levels on paper, and then I wished I could make my own that were actually playable. Later I was on The Mushroom Kingdom (a prominent Mario Web site) back in 2001, and they had a section for level editors. They just had Mario Improvement 1 and 3 at the time, IIRC, and MI1 wasn't very good, but I searched for some other things and found YY SMB Editor and a hack called "Strange Mario Bros." by someone named Acmlm, who also had a Web site, Acmlm's ROM Hack Domain.

I got a bunch of hacks from there and tried to run them, getting an emulator, an IPS patcher, and an SMB1 ROM (ROMs were much harder to come by back then). I also tried making my own hacks which weren't very good. Eventually, my parents let me register at boards and I started going to Challenge Games (which I left pretty quickly) and Acmlm's Board (where I stuck around for a while). Then, over time, I lost interest in ROM hacking although I played hacks frequently, until early this year when I made an SMB1 hack, and then eventually returned to Jul and started work on an SMB3 hack (which I've been rather lazy with as of late).

I'm not into ROM hacking. But I am into modding popular videogames like Unreal Tournament and Tribes. I don't like to brag, but I know my fair share of OpenGL and Unreal technology. I just never got into the ROM business.

Anyways, I am one of the forum drunkards here. You might catch me doing something stupid here and there. But it's all in good fun.

Post outside the fucking ROM forums sometimes. I lurked there once or...once. And most of the people there don't seem to believe there is a community outside those forums!

Anyway, seeing that this has sorta been hijacked into the "Talk about your experiences with ROM hacking" thread, I might as well mention that I have never ever done any serious ROM hacking, and the closest I have ever done was when I made a complete level for a freeware game known as Knytt Stories a while back. (Which took about a month of on-and-off working, actually) I have been interested in doing some ROM hacking, though, but the actual process of making one has usually been unappealing.

Same here. I enjoyed playing a few Mario games and I wanted to find a way to make more fun levels. My hack, as I started out with it, begins pretty hard, because I thought I'd be the man if things were very challenging. Then I realized that levels need to be fun and adventurous to play. That's my new theme in ROM Hacking.

I always would do post away from there. No worries.

I like Laser Tag and Paintball, fun games to play, as well as when some friends have parties there. I guess my first post feels heavy with a ROM Hacking talk.

I think you are misinterpretating the usage of straight Terra was using. She means "straight" as in Heterosexual.
