Now I've never watched it until today, but I have a bunch of "All-Time-Movie-Classics" lying around that I've been meaning to watch for ages, and since I'm sick, I figured I may as well use the time to watch a few.

But seriously, I thought that everyone had at least HEARD of this film. And my dad is over 60, you'd think he would at least know what movie "rosebud" was from. That's like not knowing who Luke Skywalker's father is.

Oh well. Any films that everyone's heard of and hails as great, that you want to see, but still haven't seen? Some of mine would include:

the Terminator movies
Star Wars (ironically)
Indiana Jones
The Dark Knight (probably going to watch this tomorrow at least)
Fantasia
To Kill a Mockingbird
Patton

There's a ton more, but that's all I can name off of the top of my head right now.

Or for that matter, know anybody like my dad who doesn't know who Luke's father is?

I knew who Luke's father was before I even watched the movies fully I think it was mentioned in FoxTrot.

I still haven't watched The Matrix, although I have a copy of it.

I still have quite a few movies I haven't watched yet, but I plan on getting to them sometime

I have no desire to watch some movies though, like 300 or anything like that...

The ones I though were good but I haven't seen were mainly Disney/Dreamworks movies. I seem to like them over others, for some reason. Madagascar 1 and 2 are some examples.

Nightmare Before Christmas.

I've heard great things about this movie, but I've never seen it.

It's on my instant queue on NetFlix, so one of these days I'll get to it.

it's ehh. not as amazing as everyone makes it out to be. Pretty much everyone who loves it is a crazy fan of Tim Burton, who, I feel, is incredibly overrated

As for me, I've heard incredibly good things of Slumdog Millionaire, but hearing such overwhelmingly positive reviews from EVERYONE, I don't really want to watch it because I'll probably find it incredibly overrated and not nearly as good as its praises would suggest.

One of my old co-workers hadn't seen Star Wars. We went into a mini-debate over whether to start her with the originals or the prequels. I'd go with the originals

I'm obsessed with Lord of the Rings, both the books and the films. Star Wars I'd probably enjoy, but I've always been more of a Star Trek person. I've seen Revenge of the Sith, but none of the others except bits and pieces.

Actually, that brings me to another thing. I'm a huge Star Trek fan, but I've still never seen the Original Series. I'm a TNG, DS9, VOY junkie I guess. Haven't seen Enterprise either. I'm a lot more motivated to watch the Original Series than Enterprise though, especially after the kick ass Star Trek film that came out earlier this year. From what I've heard, Enterprise just sucks balls. With the Original Series, I just always found it difficult to get past the whole 60s thing, but now I think I'm at the point where I can appreciate it. Now I just need to actually get around to doing it.

Also, I finally saw The Dark Knight. Not what I was expecting due to the hype, but the Joker really is amazing! Considering that this was my first Batman film ever, I've never been a Batman fan, and I'm not really a fan of CSI type stuff, I probably didn't enjoy it as well as most would. I was actually bored during most of the first half. The second half totally kicked ass though, and I'm already feeling the urge to watch this movie over again. I think I might watch a few other Batman movies first though to give me a different perspective. The 1989 one, and Batman Begins for starters. I know most of them are God awful, so with those ones I'll stay away.

Who said to start with the prequels? Because they're wrong.

I'm trying to get my bartender to watch Star Wars since she's never seen it.

I've watched every Star Wars movie at least 10 times

Back before Episode I was released, I always wondered about what Darth Vader was like before he became DV, along with other things, such as Luke's childhood...

Now that the prequel trilogy has been released, all that's left is the 19 years between Episode III and IV, and I'm sure the Expanded Universe takes care of that fairly well (I don't follow the EU, just the main films)

Enterprise is actually really good ... but only about midway into the second season. Before that, it sucked because it was mostly recycled or unused Voyager stories with the Enterprise characters instead (I actually hated 98% of Voyager, and prefer DS9 over all the series; TNG was good for the most part ... and I also haven't seen all of the original series but a good chunk of it, it's not great, but not terrible either.)

I haven't seen the Shawshank Redemption yet. People keep telling me that it's really good and that I ought to watch it, but certain family members around here are very ... uptight about movie content and feel like they have the right to restrict the kinds of things that are output on our television.

I kind of agree with you here. DS9 is by FAR my favorite Star trek series. It's just awesome any way you look at it. TNG is right behind it, but it has its failings especially in the early seasons. At least most of them are excusable though. I don't hate Voyager like a lot of people do, but its definitely not Trek at its best. Its too sell-outish, and it's plots are mildly ok at best with some being just plain God awful. But, for the most part I like the character interaction in this show, and there are times I can appreciate what it's trying to say even if it does come off as "dogma federation Janeway" a lot.

I'll have to give Enterprise a try sometime. One reason why I've been putting it off is that I heard in its later seasons, it starts trying to pull some retarded crap with the timeline, and ends up making next to no sense. I've never seen it though, so I wouldn't know.

Enterprise runs the full scale from "mediocre" to "pretty good". A lot of the earlier parts are completely forgettable, but the last couple seasons are quite good. Unfortunately, some of their best story arcs end up with lackluster conclusions (the whole Xindi arc's conclusion was rather disappointing, for instance).

And it has Andorians. Andorians!

Original series is fun, although the final season had some of the worst Star Trek ever. "Spock's Brain" is still yet to be topped in terms of sheer stupid. Quite a bit is really good, though. I'd personally recommend watching the remastered version, since it brought several of the effects up from "awful" to actually pretty good; obvious matte paintings aren't so obvious any more, they made it so the planets don't look like "generic blob of ink on the camera", and a few effects shots that were missing in the original release were added in. Of course, if you consider "60's-era special effects" to be part of the appeal, the older version is better.

I still need to see the last half of Batman Returns. I keep seeing the first part and then missing the rest. I'm sure there's other stuff on the list of "must watch" that I haven't seen, but I don't remember what right now.

I used to watch Voyager almost religiously back when I was a kid.
I need to go watch the series again. I never really got into DS9 though, or Enterprise.
