So yeah, I've been wanting to buy a tablet since, like, last year, but the problem is nobody stocks any here in Puerto Rico. Now that I have $200 in birthday monies to blow, I'm thinking of finally ordering one online.

I'm currently trying to decide on either the Bamboo Fun or a Bamboo Craft. Those of you who have tablets, how has your experience with them been so far, and any other recommendations I should be aware of?

I have Bamboo Fun and as far as I've used it, it's great for a starter~

It's not as accurate as a proffesional would be, but I didn't have any problems on installing or using it. You could even plug it straight away and it would work.

I got a big ol' Wacom Intuos. I don't know what the dimensions are, but it's the big mother. Best Buy had it on sale for 200, so I snatched that bad boy up. Good pressure levels, and lots of options. Easy to pick up and learn

The Bamboo series are fun, functional, and great for learning. They will certainly do the trick.

I have an Intuos as well, but it's a little one. It's my second Intuos now, and if you do any art that needs angle-sensitivity (like airbrushing where you need to spray off in one direction) then you'll need an Intuos. It's the lowest-end one that has this feature.

Pretty much all of the Wacom products are reliable, functional little products. I wouldn't buy a tablet from another company.

Some day when I have oodles and oodles of money, I'd like to get a tablet with a built-in screen (since not being able to see what I'm drawing underneath my hand really throws me off). They do make those, right?

They do, for thousands and thousands of dollars just for the small one. Considerably more for the larger ones. I honestly don't see how it can be worth that much. No monitor other than the absolutely enormous ones are that expensive (even the Sony OLED) and the actual tablets themselves don't even approach that. It doesn't add up.

As for actual tablets I've used, I've used this odd tablet PC thing that had a Wacom touch screen. it worked OK but never seemed to calibrate quite right, kinda like a DS that's been used too much. Probably just a cheap panel.

I'm not an artist or anything, so I don't really have any point of view on such things... I'd just go for the best you can reasonably afford. (Pretty much the common sense for buying anything. :p)

I hear the Cintiq (the one with the screen) is nice, but yes, starting at at least $2000 AUD, not something I will be spending money on any time soon.

I need to get a wide angle and macro lens for my DSLR first, and they're over $1,000 a piece too!
