I decided to take advantage of the sale yesterday, and bought it.

I'm still not done downloading it, but I should be finished by at most 9 PM Central Time. I'll be able to play at around 9 PM to 12 AM.

I wonder if you're moving on the wrong servers. Since, most of the servers I've played on have been pretty casual... I always try to find a "newbie"-server, although you often bump into competitive players in there

Yeah. It's not so much competitive players on newb servers, it's the jackasses who like to take screenshots of them dominating the entire other team.
Only time I've been on a newb server was when playing with my friend, and that was because she's pretty much the biggest newbie I know.

Man, I wish I had a better machine. I got TF2 while it was on sale for $2.50, but it's not running well and I've barely even been able to get into any servers.

good thing I do get to play it on my brother's comp when he visits. When I play, I like the Medic or Scout mostly. I'm an... odd medic. I'm offensive and don't stay back to heal much unless there's a heavy who doesn't have a medic. Dunno if this makes me a "bad" medic or not, but it's fun and I usually don't suck -too- bad

Have you tried a FPS config? http://www.dieall.de/da2008/index.php?mod=articles&action=view&id=60 - this one can increase your framerates by as much as 30, which makes a world of difference.

You should also avoid 32 player servers. Those lag by nature.

I generally avoid 32 player games, as I know that is just BEGGING for lag. That's why I'll never play that game MAG coming out on the PS3... disregarding the fact I don't have a PS3, of course.

I pretty much exclusively play on 32-player servers.
Helps that I have an awesome computer + internet connection combo, but I'm usually lag-free. (Helps I pick the servers I have lowest ping on, too.)

More people does not equal balance changing. If a map is balanced, it's balanced. If both sides are equally good, the map is still balanced.

Another good example is 2Fort of all things. 32 players fits it well, since you need as much offense and defense for your team as you can, but if the number is much smaller, it's harder to keep people out of your side, and fewer people trying to get to the other side.
