And re-draw, trying to refine it…

The character is called Tickets and she's the mascot of the Adelaide Roller Derby. She is drawn here wearing Salty Dolls attire. Perhaps if this turns out any good, I'll do a Mile Die Club and a Road Train Rollers one as well.

I don't think I'm going to bother trying to redraw this again.

I tried to make the head less fat, and put the eyes closer together and then she looked too "nice". And Derby girls are not supposed to look nice.

So then I pretty much re-drew most of it again. And I think I give up.

Drawing is hard.



I remember when this used to feel like the most natural thing in the world, but lately I really am struggling with trying to draw. I mean I was originally going for a very different look (which I don't think I achieved at all) and now I've just sort of reverted to something closer to my regular style.

I suppose it was an interesting learning experience, or something.

Give me another couple of hours and I'll hate this re-draw too. An artist's mercurial temperament?

Oh, I absolutely believe it.

Art/illustration/design/music are all very funny things this way… you start doing one thing and it turns out absolutely completely different to how you started or intended.

I am never sure if this is a lack of skill thing, that is… if I had more skill, would I be able to bring the visions in my head to life properly… or if even very skilled artists have this problem.

I do know it is frustrating as all hell.

I've also come to the conclusion I need some kind of artistic sounding-board to tell me when things are off because after hours and hours with something you start to not see the problems with them.

I'm not sure there's much I could do to it any more that will add to the picture. I think i have the shading about right. I could possibly do a bit more work on the hair, but I've done projects where I've spent days on hair so I'm going to avoid getting too much into that.
