1920x1440, back in 2002 on a 17" CRT that didn't support it (came up blank) ... however, the same screen could do 1920x1080 just fine, except it was hard to read


And my old 200MHz had a few video modes at 50Hz, or even as low as 43Hz interlaced ... that really made 60Hz look great

My laptop has a higher resolution than my desktop vertically, despite the fact that I bought a new monitor a little over a year ago and my laptop over 5 years ago. My laptop is running in 1280x800, while my desktop is running in 1366x768.

It makes it seem like my laptop's screen looks bigger than the desktop's screen, but in reality, my desktop's screen is bigger than it seems.

I've had 1024x768 for a long time now, and I like it. My laptop has 1440x900, and I always find myself using the highest zoom on Paint and then zooming in further. I like my pixels.

Currently on 1280x1024, which is just right for my purposes.

Though I can set the resolution anywhere from 2048x1536 down to 320x200 (I tried that, and er it was a bit small)

My screen is set at 1680 x 1050, and if I hook my TV up to my computer that's set at 1920 x 1080. I need a laptop sooner or later. >.>

I find it very annoying how some windows, particularly AIM, reposition themselves when the resolution is changed by a program

Also, some programs like VLC media player constantly resize themselves, even going from maximized to non-maximized without telling the OS Like, it doesn't fill the whole screen, but Windows still thinks the program is maximized, so hitting the maximize button will "unmaximize" it, just moving to its old unmaximized position imstead of maximizing it.

Yea... I don't play too many computer games that change the resolution, and I just use windowed modes for emulators anyway (of course, at 2x size, because 1x size is too small at 1920x1200) ^_^

Anyway, having a larger resolution really helps when working with large images or watching HD videos in full-screen...

I hate it when games refuse to run in anything but fullscreen or change the resolution on me. I like having things in a window, so I can shift focus to, say, IMs if I need to without having to ALT+tab out.

ZSNES in particular tends to not play nice with other apps

If another program takes the focus, ZSNES will keep running in the background Some nagware caused Mario to lose a life recently. Also, it hides or removes the mouse pointer in windowed mode, kinda defeating the purpose of windowed mode beacuse you can't use the mouse to switch to another program.

SNES9x is better for many reasons... for one thing, it doesn't choke on some ROM hacks... and SNES9x seems to have better accuracy in terms of graphics and sound ^_^

For example, when playing J2E's Final Fantasy IV fan-translation on ZSNES, you get an extra blank line at the bottom of the text box that isn't there in SNES9x... also, Chrono Trigger's sound effects are more accurate on SNES9x than ZSNES ^_~

IIRC, ZSNES also doesn't like Kirby's Avalanche, as it just fails to boot up and says "SPC700 STALL DETECTED" at the Nintendo screen...

I switched from SNES9x to ZSNES around 2006 or so, and went back to SNES9x fairly recently ^_^

I switched from ZSNES to Snes9x in 2004-2005, mostly because Snes9x got re-recording features (for tool-assisted runs), although I use it for normal play too But bsnes is the most accurate, just much slower because of that ...

As for windows moving all over the place with resolution changes, that's mostly Windows's fault ... it's even worse with dual screen and a vertical taskbar, I've seen it push windows offscreen or stretch the taskbar to half of the screen

I also hate when games force fullscreen mode (mostly for the above, and bad for multitasking), although I do have a way around it for some of them ... virtual machines But I usually run emulators in fullscreen, at max resolution to avoid resolution changes ...


And I'm on 1920x1200 + 1280x1024

I'm curious, Acmlm. How does full-screen work when using 2 monitors? Does it try to use both monitors somehow and fail, or use one but blank the other, or use one and still allow you to do something else with the other?

IIRC, I actually started with SNES9x, but switched to ZSNES beacuse people said ZSNES was better This was back in 2002.

My first NES emulator was Nesticle Then I switched to Nester briefly for something or other, then FCEU, then sometimes Nestopia but usually still FCEU.
