In college, people who hit other people go to jaaaaail!

That's my favorite part of it, seriously. No more fighting people. And policemen to apprehend anyone who thinks it's still high school.

Yeah, that's also true.

Not sure what age it is for high school/college as we don't use the same system in sweden.

College is so much better than high school. High school felt to me like prison.

At school we have beer and places to drink it.

Because apparently engineering equals alcohol.

Don't you mean security guards? That seems more common.

Well, we do have a sports bar just a minute away from work.

People have snuck over there during work.

Although the public high school here had metal detectors and security guards, gangs used it as a recruiting place. The people of this place generally were the sort you heard of in movies, with knives, guns, you name it. People got shot and killed here, and those who didn't often wound up being in gangs.

The Security guards were mostly to protect the school itself, not its students.

This is why I went to independent study--it was the only way to avoid this horrible fate, of Prison High School. (Well, P stood for something else, but I'm not saying. :p)

My explanation goes further.

Public school, the Elementary portion thereof, was nothing but me fighting others. It was there many people were horrendously injured. Broken bones, scars, people injuring me. I nearly died there, at the age of... what... 8? 9? Maybe 10. Some jerk tried to choke me to death and I saw a white light is all I know.

The big thing is that originally as a kid, people went 'boys will be boys' even though the others were ganging up and beating the @#$% out of me, such that I eventually went psychotic. Then I would black out and... not feel any pain or really have control over my fists. The beatings I gave to them were involuntary... although it stopped them. Them being those who tried to beat on me, at least. They stopped attacking me when my psychosis proved to be a match against entire groups of them.

Either way, becoming old to the extent that the law applied was the only sure escape from this evil. It would seem I had no rights to sue those who beat me as long as both they and I were underage, so had I not gone to independent study, it would be possible I could have been killed before speaking to you today.

Such is the utterly broken nature of the laws and public schools here.

Yeah, but your tuition probably isn't $10000/semester at community college. Thank goodness for scholarships.

Hey, getting a job out of community college is better than getting an university degree that, based on your field of study, could be potentially worthless.

The nice thing about college is that you don’t have to turn in homework. If you don’t know the subject, do it; if rehashing fifty identical problems for the next hour won’t help you any, then don’t do it.

And yes, community college is cheap. I’m taking twelve hours—the eleven hours at the CC cost twice as much as the single hour at the U.

The community college that I went to turned into an actual college about a year or so ago. I wonder if it improved.

I drove past my old high school a few months ago and the place looked really bad and run down. I mean, it was bad when I was there, but it got worse.

The nice thing about college is that you don’t have to turn in homework.

Maybe at your college, but it all depends on the class - some teachers still made us do weekly articles and other crap like that.

My teacher for linear algebra grades homework

Grading a few problems per section is fine with me, but he'll assign like 50 problems, twice a week. Some of them are very time-consuming, like solving a system of 3 equations using a matrix. Plus I have not-quite-weekly physics labs and a senior project, and creative writing.

You are recommended to use CSS to specify the font and

the size of HTML files and make them easier to maintain
compared with using <FONT> elements.

You are recommended to use CSS to control line wrapping.
Use "white-space: nowrap" to inhibit wrapping in place
