It's like a super power. You know, like Super Strength for those who need to ride their bicycle uphill, or Super Smell for determining when every pizza in the dormatory is cooked thoroughly... But this, this is Super Forgetting!

The premise is that you can voluntarily and permanently forget the most recent arbitrary amount of time from your memories. While this can be useful to un-experience something (like seeing this caricature of a forum personality), it can also provide a sort of way to lurch forwards in time when you don't feel like waiting. So you've got a 3-hour car ride? Just forget it when you're done and it's like you pull out of your driveway and into your destination!

Now, here's the thing: you'll never get those memories back. While you can always decide whether or not you'll want to forget something, the fact remains that if you do, that's time that you'll never see again... and time is limited, at least in the long run. If you go through your life skipping over all the boring stuff, how much of it would you bypass in the end? Furthermore, if you did have such an ability to forget, would you use it, or would you find ways to spend your time wisely knowing that you had the option to erase said time from your memories for good?

How would your decisions be affected if you had Super Forgetting? Would you use it at all? How would you use it if you did?

On a side note, it's Monday, and Sunday is a long time from now!

No thanks, my memory has enough holes in it as it is. I wouldn't use it. In fact, I would return it for a refund if that is an option.

I'm pretty sure everybody has those moments they would be better off forgetting. I know I have my fair share.

I got the idea from a waiting period, to be honest. Waiting I didn't care to do, but couldn't do anything about. While it'd still suck up to the time when I choose to forget said waiting, it'd be, from my memory's perspective, like cutting out that period altogether and all of a sudden it's time for what's on the other end of the temporal fence. One moment I'm thinking about how boring it's going to be, the next moment, it's all over!

But yeah, I don't know if I'd end up using it or not. I know that if I deem a given period of time worthless, I'd choose to forget it, but I'd want to make every second count to ensure that I never have to use it...

"Brain Farts" is what I call them. And unfortunately, I get these all the time. Especially when reading.

I used to be a good reader back in Middle school and High School. Hell I even made it into Georgia's literature contest. Made first in my general area (Don't have a copy, but it was called "A Creature within".)

Now it's hard for me to read certain things. And counting brain farts, I sometimes forget what I am reading and have to start all over. It's aggravating.

I forget things when I need to memorize then, and when I want to memorize something (like when a stupid song stuck to my head), I never manage to forget it.

Such a superpower could turn out to be really useful for some of the more painful decisions, like cleaning the rooms and such.

Eh, it has its uses, but ultimately it could be changed for something much better. (Like real-life savestating)

Besides, here's a thought: technology could someday make this so-called superpower very possible, including reverting changes you made on accident or such. Hell, even memory sharing if you feel so inclined.

I seem to be good at this already. Sometimes it fails to pass time, but I've almost completely forgotten all the incidents I felt had no worth to my continued sanity.

Indeed, I'm thinking about them and all I see are the burnt edges.

Handy, indeed.

Now with 60% more chance of spontaneous combustion.

I'd use it if besides forgetting I could get rid of whatever I want to forget first.
I mean, it's pointless to forget something if it's going to come back...

Considering how easy is it to load an state by accident and lose way too much progress, that wouldn't be a good thing.

Well that's why you disable the shortcut buttons when you have to be sure you don't want to load state accidentally. Just use the dropdown or a custom screen with save and load on opposite sides.

...I forgot what else.
