Hubby just called. He was in a car accident right outside his work. He's fine.

To get to his work, he turns into a a street that has two lanes. One lane for each direction. There's no light to pull into his work, so he's stopped on the street, with his blinker on and a car slams into the back of ours.

He told me that the other car's hood/engine was pushed under our car.

But he says that our car is fine save for some damage.

The cops won't let the lady of the other car drive. Heh, I wonder if she was on her phone.

Hubby took pictures of our car and thankfully we have insurance and since it wasn't our fault, we won't have to pay to get it fixed.

Still sucks though.

Good that he was safe.

Roads like that suck, though. They didn't have a center lane for turns? Without one (especially on higher-speed roads) that kind of thing can easily cause accidents.

Nope, no center lane to turn. I hate that place where he has to turn in for work. A few inches behind him, there's people pulling out to his right. And then you have the turn to the left?

Eh, it could get worse... there's a Fry's here that, three years ago or so, you had to make a left turn though 3 lanes of highway-to-freeway traffic to get to.

Let's just say that it got so bad that Fry's has its own overpass now.

Hubby just told me that the lady driver told the cops that she looked away for two seconds.

Picture of the car after the accident this morning. on Twitpic

It doesn't look that bad, but then again, we were hit before and the sound of the impact was loud and I'm surprised that we didn't get more damage. Of course that was from a car hitting another car and then hitting ours.

Oh, I just got a picture of the other car....uploading now.....

Here is a shot of the other car. on Twitpic

Wow....our car's bumper is made of something cause I'm shocked that it doesn't look like the other car.

I had to double check your car to see if it was a Honda or not because after seeing the minimal damage to your bumper, the first thing that ran through my head was "those Honda bumpers are sure strong." Then I realized it was a Toyota...

All in all, I'm glad insurance is covering it and your husband is fine.

That's kinda what my car looked like after someone rear-ended me, but there was a lot more damage underneath. The spare tire/bottom of the trunk was pushed inwards and the muffler pipe was broken. The "bumper," being made of plastic, just popped back out as if nothing happened.

Of course my husband isn't the best person with detail.

That's where I come in.

He failed to look under the car.

1) The spare tire metal hole area is bent pretty bad.
2) The metal around the muffler is bent.

The truck won't open and the bumper seems to be lower then usual.

Hubby is going to take it to Toyota to get a damage report.

And his neck started to hurt him a little bit. I told him even if it's bothering him a little, he needs to see a doctor, just in case.

He says thank you for the well wishes and what nots.

It's good to hear that he wasn't injured and I hope that his back starts feeling better .

My dad was actually in a similar situation about 15 years ago. I hope that everything works out well for your husband just like it did for my Dad.

I'm glad that he's (mostly?) okay, and hope that the thing with his neck is nothing serious. Here's hoping your car isn't damaged too badly, too. =/

I wonder if people are becoming more idiotic about driving, or if I'm just being forced to notice it more now. About a week ago, I was stopped at a light (granted, at one that isn't often red, but still), and some asshat came flying up behind me and obviously hadn't noticed the light. I had to floor it and and go through the light to not get hit. Thankfully there weren't any cars going through anymore, and I just happened to be watching my rear view mirror and saw that the moron wasn't slowing down. As it was, it was a very close call. He kept going, didn't even slow down. *shakes head*

Yeah, check the neck thing out for sure. Probably isn't anything serious but you don't want it to be something like whiplash...

Still could have been a lot worse. :\ At least this won't hurt you financially thanks to the wonderful world of insurance and people being asshats like Aiya said.

So the lady's insurance, StateFarm, will pay for all damages to our car, his medical bills and they'll even give us a rental car!

Now he really needs to go to the doctor, just to make sure everything is ok.

And her premiums go sky-high now!

As long as his neck's fine, everything's good.

So the car is in the shop. They said it will take about ten days to fix. Haven't gotten the rental yet.

Let me just say... A lot of cars these days can take a hit. A friend of mine got hit at a good 35 mph in the rear. He walked away without a scratch and his car was fine too. The other guy was left with an accordion.

Turn lanes should be a requirement, cuz there will always be dumbfuck drivers who don't pay attention.

Turn lanes are no cure for stupidity. They also give the idiot drivers more lanes to swerve across. I was coming up to a left turn arrow once and starting to slow down for a red light in that lane, when this moron who was two lanes over (far right) decided to cross two lanes of traffic into the far left turn lane suddenly. I ended up having to swerve into the oncoming lane to avoid a collision b/c his lane change was so sudden and his car was probably inches in front of mine by the time he made it into my lane. I ended up accelerating around him, the first person in line waiting for the left arrow to turn green, with him right behind me. I've never wanted to pummel a fellow motorist so badly as that day. The fucked up part is that if I had actually hit him, I probably would have been labeled as being at fault by the police or whoever b/c I would have rear ended him, unless there were some quality witnesses paying attention to what was going on.

Good to hear everything's relatively ok now. At least the lady didn't freaking run like one guy did to my dad.
