...or any "bee" for that matter.

Have you ever been in one before?

I remember being in one when I was in elementary school, but that memory of mine is a tad hazy. I know that we had it in our school cafeteria and I know that I didn't win.

Some thirteen year old kid just won the National Geographic Bee.

I remember watching the Simpsons where they would make fun of such "bees".

Obviously, you're not cut out for the Spelling ones. Or Grammar.

Made regionals a few times when I was in grade school. Best I ranked was 4th in regionals...and to top it off I just couldn't hear the word properly so I spelled something completely wrong.

Like, it started with a V and I started with an F.

When it came to high school, I had done the whole WYSE competition deal in my junior and senior year...making regionals twice in Chemistry and Computer Science, and placing State my senior year in Computer Science, ranking 7th overall in State and 1st (tied) in regionals. Although that wasn't a bee more than a lot of kids put into a gym or auditorium and put a test in front of you that most kids wouldn't have an effing clue about.

I don't know when this problem started when I would think of a word and write another.

I won one in either second or third grade, with the word "conquer." I was honestly amazed.

My first grade year I made it into one too, but the damn speaker wouldn't pronounce the word properly so I had the same issue Hiryuu did. :|

Middle school I opted not to participate in, though. People were fuckwads, and I know there'd be hell if I didn't win, or won... lose-lose eityher way.

Oh and I think I remember my reaction when I got announced for state. Ponked both fists on the table, pumped them in the air and went 'oh yea!!'.

Made me look like a retard but I didn't really care. I was off to state and no one else was.

No, they really weren't that big around here when I was in elementary school.

I can't even recall any competitions. If we did have any... shows you how important they were.

I won our elementary school's Geography Bee when I was in the 5th grade. I know a friend of mine was in a spelling bee or two in middle school, also.

Never did a spelling bee, but constant spelling tests until 8th grade warped my mind. I can spell the most transient of words these days...

I never participated in a spelling bee. There was one time where I could've been a part of the Spanish Spelling Bee at my school, but I didn't really want to remember a small booklet of words that I might have gotten and where the accents on certain words go.

Made it to the national bee back in 1993, got 29th place, won $100, bought a Genesis. I still have the nice watch and plaque somewhere, too.

Somehow, it didn't really seem like a big deal back then (even though I was on the local news/in the paper twice and had my picture appear on national news at least once), and even now I remember it more for the sights and sounds of D.C. than the event itself.

I did a spelling be once in 3rd or 4th grade, I got knocked out by February, of all things. Spelled it without an r. What's funny is that now I can spell things fine, whereas my friends who advanced farther than me kept misspelling variable names in Comp Sci. I was the one everyone went to for help, soo...

"Hey, my programs not working! I don't know what I did wrong."
"You spelled principle as principle here, and principal there. Again."
"Oh."

The last type of 'Bee' contest I remember was a Geography one in Middle School, but I never cared enough to do it. Though as far as more recent things go, we have the AMC math test, which I did relatively well on, but not quite good enough to go anywhere.

The only bees I've participated in was my school's geography bee in middle school, and I was the only one to have won them to date . I think I know too much geography for my own good =P

But yeah, I don't remember what I got from winning the second one, but from the first one, I did get an awesome world map that I have yet to use

I was in the regional (read: state) spelling be in 6th grade. Then I spelled 'malodorous' wrong which I probably wouldn't have done if I had asked for the definition of the word

Fuck the geography bee though, National Geographic can burn in hell.

There was nothing past the school's bee for me.

I think I got ripped off. :|

Sukasa - Send Private Message

Closest I came was representing my High School in a geography challenge.

I wasn't even getting a B and I was the best in the school on the entrance exam for that challenge
