Congrats on your license, Higsby!

I got my license a few weeks after my 16th birthday. I missed 14 points, which is the max you can miss while still passing. 10 of those points were because I "didn't observe my surroundings enough" which is bullshit but oh well, and the other 4 were for botching a left turn. I was in the inside turn lane and didn't judge the angle very well, but I still stayed in my lane. It was just really ungraceful.

The guy who I took the test with was a prick who told me before we even left that his hand would be on the emergency break the entire time in case I do something stupid. Like I needed to hear that from him. Douchebag.

I had to do a written test when I turned 16 to get my G1 (license that lets you drive if you have a passenger that has a full G license). The test that I just took was for my G2 (You're supposed to wait a full year after you get your G1 before you can take it although because I took driver's ed the wait time was reduced to 8 months) which allows me to drive alone on any road. The only restriction is that I can only have one passenger that is under the age of 20 in my car from midnight to 5AM for the first 6 months after I get my G2 (after that it goes up to a max of 3). Technically I still have to go for my full G license which gets rid of those restrictions although it isn't completely necessary as I highly doubt that I'll be driving after midnight anyway

I think they recently changed the law but it hasn't gone into effect yet... I'm not sure if it varies by state or not. When I was 16, I got a license with restrictions. No passengers under 22 years old, and I couldn't drive between the hours of 11pm and 5am. That was for a year I think, but it might have been 6 months. I didn't really follow it... nobody does.

I remember hearing a while back that the law (again, dunno if this was just in california or nationwide) would change so that licenses can't be earned until a minimum 18 years of age. I thought it passed, but it hasn't gone into effect yet. Or maybe my memory is totally shot.

I got mine when I was 16 without restrictions. I didn't really see the point of them adding them...if you're gonna suck as a driver, age really doesn't have a lot to do with it more than actual experience and the ability to not drive like a total asswipe on the road.

And trust me...I deal with plenty, regardless of the setting...even with something as simple as a turn signal. Just those little things that people did as a means of courtesy that would make my day go a little better. Not riding up my ass, going at least the speed limit and turn signals are probably my top three outside of the rudeness that's around cutting people off or being complete dipshits on the road like they were drunk or something.

Those are the people that shouldn't have a license at all...restrictions or otherwise.

Three years, seriously? That's crazy. Everyone here bitches about the short provisionary period we deal with, but three years?! I feel like I've been driving forever, and it's just been 4 years.

And Hiryuu... don't even get me started on the dumbfucks that are out on the road. I want to know how some of those drivers are even still alive. And I want to know how some of them got a fucking license.

Also, old people should have to take driving tests annually in order to keep their license. Thank you.

I still like the one that my mother coined a decade or more back. Some way to take a plunger gun or similar and shoot it at vehicles that pass by or get close if they fuck around on the road. Make it easier for them to be spotted by the police.

Too bad that's impractical and abuse-able as hell but hey...it's a thought!

I think that in Canada once you get to a certain age you do have to take the test again*, although I could be wrong about that.

*My grandfather told me that he never even had to take a test. Back then they just gave him his license when he was old enough
