The answer is yes (but you should've know if you read my latest comments about the 0.6b release, found in this thread). The whole point behind the spiral slide video was to show something that you'll be able to do with version 0.6b.

1. Will it have new textures you can import/export? (like the HUD, sky, ect.)

2. Will it still have the Luigi easter egg availabe?

Welcome to the forum Bob-omb8194 and thanks for posting in the right threads

1. Importing new sky textures is a planned feature, I already got most of the sky importer working. As for HUD icons/textures, it's a frequently asked feature so I'll try to implement it in 0.6, but I don't promise anything.

2. Yes it will be still available. I may or may not fix the problem when Luigi loses his hat (as I explained elsewhere, it's not that simple as I hand-picked the nose vertices in the "hatted-head" to apply a special distortion to the nose, to avoid the flat nose problem in my previous Luigi hack, and the hatless Luigi's nose vertices are not found in the same place as the normal head)

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post, but as far as gravity goes, how would it work?
I noticed in the first post, you used a sphere model.
Can it be made so Mario walks along the sphere like in Super Mario Galaxy? I would imagine that'd be too complex though.

There is no gravity.

Mario always goes down, no object has an effect on Mario's gravity.

There's no way we'll get Mario to climb up completely vertical walls or walk upside down under a platform, unless we completely rewrite the game engine.

Nintendo had to create a whole new gravity system for Super Mario Galaxy, it would take way more than a few hacks to achieve it in SM64. I'm not even sure that the n64 has enough processing power to enable this kind of gravity engine.

As for the sphere model in the screenshot, I did try to make it a little like SMG. I used the "non-slippery" collision surface (used in Bowser 3 course on very steep hills) enabling Mario to walk all over the top of the sphere without slipping, but if he gets to close to the edge he still falls. Another problem is that while Mario's angle does change while he walks/runs on a very slanted surface, he instantly reverts back to standing completely vertical when he stops. I tried to find a solution to this with yoshiman and messiaen, but we haven't found it yet.

One way it could be possible would be not to change the gravity, but just rotate the whole world around Mario (i.e. pseudo gravity).
But I guess that would only work for small worlds (well, a sphere isn't that big) and would still be quite hard to do (would probably include some behavior hacking as we can't modify the engine itself).

It's a clever idea at first sight, that I also had before, but it would only work with a single sphere, would also require to find a way to rotate the sky background, and any independent objects in the level. You wouldn't be able to put enemies like Goombas on the sphere, as they would fall off when the sphere rotates.

Anyhow, since I mentioned sky backgrounds, here's a screenshot of the sky background importer/exporter/swapper that will be in TT64 v0.6b

It's fully functional, except maybe the automatic loading of backgrounds from the ROM. Importing all 10 backgrounds can take 30 seconds on my 1.86Ghz Core duo 2 Mac. I may or may not make it work like the texture importer, so it uses included original backgrounds unless you make it load them from ROM.

The red boxes with X's appear on 3 special backgrounds (including this one) because the game engine repeats the last (non-red-crossed) tile to create the bottom part. The other two backgrounds that work like that are the lava levels sky and the Jolly Roger bay cloudy sky. The red crosses are included in the exported .png so you can see where you can't draw (as these tiles won't be imported back).

I'll now concentrate my efforts on the polygon importer interface. I only have one month to finish it

The easy part will be making the interface to specify importation parameters, I already did a bank selector interface, which includes code that can generate the corresponding level script (0x17 commands for both polygon/texture data segments and associated geo layout segments, as well as 0x22 commands).

The hardest parts will be making a 3d preview with camera controls (though these will be more limited than in the main interface), a system to load/save parameters as well as level scripts commands (like 0x24 commands) so you won't have to start your level if you re-import polygons. I'll have to deal with problems like: what if you change the banks before re-importing and load 0x24 commands that use unavailable models?

Aside from that, I'll have to implement the ability to replace more than one level (aside from Bob-omb Battlefield) so you can have multiple custom levels in a single ROM. It won't be that hard, but it wasn't planned and I have to take some big decisions concerning which levels will be available, how much space in ROM will there be between custom level start addresses, and will the ROM be extended to 32Mb to accommodate more levels.

It hasn't been asked before, but unfortunately the answer is no. It may be possible with some not-that-easy ASM hacking, but TT64 won't provide this possibility because it's not built into the game engine. You'll be able though to change backgrounds independently for sub-areas (ie. Cool Cool mountain and its slide).

An update on progress: The 3d preview for the .obj importer is almost done, it has top/bottom/left/right/front/back/orbit camera modes, with a x,y,z control widget (like in the main TT64 window), as well as the ability to switch between orthographic and perspective projection. The view shows level boundaries as a wireframe box, and the orthographic view is very useful to know exactly if your level fits within boundaries.

I also worked on finalizing the Bank swapper interface. As you can see, there is 3 main banks (segments) that can be changed. Each have a pre-defined set of banks they can be changed to. It can't be limiting because for example you couldn't use ROM bank 04 with Object bank 0C while using ROM bank 06 with Object bank 0D. That's because geo layout and polygon scripts depend on finding content in specific bank IDs, so it wouldn't be simple to get their content to work with a different Object bank ID.

Still, it's much more flexible than it was before (you're not stuck with Bob-omb battlefield objects)

Note that Object Bank 0x0F only has one possible ROM bank content, but you can choose to disable the bank to get more RAM for your level.

What about in Bowser in the Sky? There's that platform/wall thing that makes mario walk vertically...
Couldn't that be reproduced and added/implemented into the other levels? The platform's behavior maybe? (Sorry for my ignorance)

BTW, the editor's looking good. keep it up.

If I remember correctly, that wall area that Mario runs up doesn't work for Mario when he's going back down.

Edit: Looks like I remembered incorrectly.

I do believe that VL-TONE has already played around with how "slippery" it is, on the first page it says:

In the screenshots, I set the type of terrain to "ultra non slippery" as used in the very steep slanted platform in the third Bowser course.

My intended goal was to make a small "Super Mario Galaxy"-like level. Mario can walk around the sides of the sphere almost in a vertical way, but unfortunately he'll still fall if he gets really close to the side, even with this type of terrain he can't walk on a perfectly vertical wall, and even less under the sphere.

In that platform (Bowser in the sky) is ultra non slippery but everything else in
that level is slippery (exept for the other lego-walls).

Yay editor!
But if you disable the 0x0F bank is the game still going to work without those models?

Now, I've looked all over the internet for an old copy of N-World, and I could only find a very old reference of a pirated copy in the newsgroups, but with the binaries gone.

In my own search for Nichimen's N-World, I found the following information regarding the current state of the software:

N-World seems to have 'evolved' into (or been replaced by) Nichimen's Mirai --> http://www.digitalproducer.com/pages/nichimen_graphics_launches_much_.htm

Mirai was purchased by Izware in 2004, a company "formed by several of the original developers of the software" --> http://www.izware.com/news/index.htm

I haven't had any luck finding a copy of the older N-World (with the N64 plug-in) either. Mirai does support obj format (like most 3d modeling programs), so it could be used to model objects for the importer if nothing else

Looking great!

Not sure how much you have looked into RSP/RDP commands, but if you are still using the "transparent" template, I fixed a small problem some weeks ago by erasing the flags from the SETGEOMETRYMODE and CLEARGEOMETRYMODE (0xB7 and 0xB6) commands:

E700 0000 0000 0000
BA00 1402 0010 0000
B900 031D C811 3078
B900 0201 0000 0000
F800 0000 0000 00FF
BC00 0008 0E49 F2B7
B700 0000 0000 0000 instead of B700 0000 0001 0000
FCFF FFFF FFFC F238
B600 0000 0000 0000 instead of B600 0000 0002 2000 (or probably this could be just removed)
F510 0000 0700 0000
BB00 0001 FFFF FFFF
E800 0000 0000 0000

By the way, not sure if this RDP reference is of help (its probably for a later microcode) but at least it may offer you some insight about how some commands works.

The alt attribute should be used to give a short description
of an image; longer descriptions should be given with the
longdesc attribute which takes a URL linked to the description.
These measures are needed for people using non-graphical browsers.

For further advice on how to make your pages accessible
see http://www.w3.org/WAI/GL.
You are recommended to use CSS to specify the font and
properties such as its size and color. This will reduce
the size of HTML files and make them easier to maintain
compared with using <FONT> elements.

You are recommended to use CSS to control line wrapping.
Use "white-space: nowrap" to inhibit wrapping in place
of inserting <NOBR>...</NOBR> into the markup.
