This is my first post here, so let me introduce myself: my name is Jorge Andres and I live in Lima/Perú (south America), and i like/play all the games of Mario (especially: Super Mario Bros 3 (NES), Super Mario World (SNES), Super Mario World 2 (SNES) and Super Mario 64, i have never play Super Mario 64 DS but i want to play it someday ). I am Peruvian so my first language is Spanish (i speak Spanish correctly), but English not too math, so in this post you will find more than 1 mistake.

NOW talk about the title of this topic: Why is not some spanish character support for text wrangler?

I am working to make a spanish version for Mario 64 (spanish version for Mario exist, you can find 1 in emudesc.net/foros/nintendo-64 (is a spanish forums), but with some error), so i use the program Text Wrangler to do my own Mario 64 spanish version with corectly use of spanish language, BUTTTT the program Text Wrangler not support some character that is too much necessary for me, to do a Mario 64 without grammatical error (or something like that).

Here i write some character that can`t support Text Wrangler 1.1b:

"Tildes character", in english doesn`t exist, but in spanish yes*; it is necessary to write word like rápido (quick) or "montaña fría y más fría" (cool, cool mountain) .
á (alt+160)
é (alt+130)
í (alt+161)
ó (alt+162)
ú (alt+163)

¡ (in spanish, this is used to open a exclamation sentences like: ¡no regreses! (don't come back!))
¿ (in spanish, this is used to open a question sentences ¿Quieres grabar ahora? (do you want to save now?))

THE BIGGEST ERROR:
Ñ/ñ: In the case mention before (ó,¿), i can solve the character problem simply writing the word without tildes ( like: Koopa el rapido for Koppa el rápido (koopa the quick)) or without ¡,¿ (like: no regreses! for ¡no regreses (don`t come back)!), BUT in this case without the character Ñ/ñ I can`t write some words like montaña (mountain), cañon de Mario (canon Mario), i say that is a big problem because i am being force to write incorrect words like: montana for montaña or canon for cañon and this words is a biggest mistake that some who read/speak Spanish will notice.



This is some of the character that i can`t uses in Text Wranler 1.1b (a don`t remember all) please VL-Tone try to do a big effort in order to this character can be write in Text Wrandler, all the people who play a spanish version of Super Mario 64 will appreciate it (specially the people in the Nintendo 64 emudesct forums, who make a spanish version of Mario with this errors). If you do it I will be the first person that do a spanish version of Mario 64 correctly. It is impossible, please try to explain, why?.

Other thing:
Can yo do add the 1- function "edit peach text in the final story", when you kill Bowser (3º) and you past the game you see a little story that peach talk some like that:"o Mario the power of the start has restore the castle, and it`s all thanks to you, thank you Mario...."). 2- Funtion to edit the text "save and continue , save and quit and don`t save" ;i want to edit this, in order to have a 100% Spanish version.

Hmm, I believe it is because those characters do not exist in the SM64 font?
Someone can correct me if I am wrong of course.

Sounds right to me, i've tried usuing accents and such before too and it seems like it isnt supported if it was possible im sure the delevlopers would have taken that into consideration; but a Spanish version sounds awesome keep at it even if you cant use accents im sure people will be able to understand to a degree.

i tryed to put acents too, i making a tradution to Portuguese (im brazilian lol)
and im finishing it!

If there's a Spanish version of the ROM somewhere, then it's probably a fan translation, so the tildes characters as well as the "¡" and "¿" are probably going to be added/replaced graphics. Being the former, I imagine someone could find the addresses of the symbols and make a quick fix patch for the text wrangler, presuming that preexisting addresses aren't incorrect due to the additional symbols, in which case the utility would have to be altered all over. But having never touched any of the Mario 64 hacking tools (or the ROM for that matter) this is only guesswork.

Come to think about it, why am I even posting in this section? I know nill about Mario 64 hacking.

amateur fix: Edit the graphics of seven of the font symbols that you'll never use (z, j, ect) and simply use those in the text editor. Even if there aren't seven letters you don't plan on using, you can change vocab around so there are.

yeah, someone expert enought found the address of the simbols and put there, likle the [C] and [A] change the visual it should be [?] or [¿] and [!] or [¡].

but still now way to put these simbols =(

and these |í Í| |à À| |â Â| |á Á| |ã Ã| |ç Ç| simbols dont work too, and much more...

I Suppose that i can´t add tildes(accents) beacuase the limitation of Mario rom .

VL-TONE you should answer this: It´s posible to add some new symbol in Mario 64?, and if it´s posible can you add the symbol: á, é, í, ó, ú, !, ¿, and the more important Ñ/ñ.

Other (to VL-tone)It´s is posible to edit the text that you see in the final story (when you pass the game and peach said thankyou Mario......), i want to edit this to spanish , so please add this funtion.

YEAH!! i remember now!! the new version of toads tool dont have the curse "picture at the final" and the version 4.0 has it....

VL_TONE, u take it out thats why was impossile to load it??



and winninglero i think its possible, BUT its VERYYYYY hard, i mean, to me lol, i only know about moding not introducting....
