I would actually recommend using Google Sketchup.

Read this. It's biased, as you'll find out, but that's how I feel about both of them. I used Blender for a little over a year, and Sketchup for maybe a month.

I'll agree with the top two cons for Blender, but I've never seen the rest of the problems.

And I'm not too sure about the steep learning curve con either. I taught myself in about a day.

Yeah I'm fixing the post as we speak. It's definitely biased, it's crashed on me more times than I'd like to deal with. But I imagine for some it's never crashed on them at all...

Sketchup's trump card is basically the fact that you can literally draw a new face wherever you want it. For me that was enough to make the switch. I hate shifting vertices and all that stuff.

Yeah yeah, take your friendly banter to PM, this topic is for level importing.
And don't respond to this post about it either, I'm tempted to delete/compact your pre-existing banter as it is. I want people to be able to see the technical stuff, so they know this isn't just some trash topic where you two banter.

To extract BoB from the game, get Nemu 64 (emulator) go to the level you want to rip and then pause the emulator (not the game itself) go to the settings for the graphics and check 'create vrml' and quickly unpause and repause the emulator. Then should have a folder cald vrml on you hardrive (if you don't create on and do the stuff with the emulator again).
After that load blender, click inport vrl select the vrl file in the folder and vola, you have Bomb omb battlefield ready to edit.
Sorry if this sounds complicated

thanks a lot dear vinnyboiler, it worked great! There were small problems with the LemD3D8.dll causing a wrong texture export but updating this dll was the solution!

Watching the OOPS chematic in blender by opening a vml file, it looks horryfying talking about how objects, meshes, textures are linked together.

Just because it's interesting, here the oops chematic of mario64, bob omb battlefield! This image is too big for linking into this forum btw...

http://img693.imageshack.us/img693/1904/oopsmario64.jpg

And this is the result:

http://img59.imageshack.us/img59/729/mariowd.jpg

I'm going to try to make everything simplier in this file speaking of reducing verticies. currently it counts 7000 but for papervision applications it have to be around 200 to 500 verticies.

I will post results in the next weeks for those who are interested, and thanks again vinnyboiler!

Dear Jul SM64 Hacker Members,
Well here's what I have done for making a SM64 Custom Level Obj. File. for the 80TH TIME... an Google Sketch-Up won't read my Faces/Anything Triangulated but I've done this b4 an now it's saying 2 ANY Custom I make 2 Obj. Import AT ALL RIGHT PERFECT MAKES DO NOT UNDERSTAND THIS EVERY-SINGLE-TIME Y:
Wat it says COPIED DIRECTLY FOR HELP:
Triangulation Plug-In Makes Objects VANISH And Obj. Importer Plug-In Says:
Exporting textures to: /tmp
Nothing to export.
Analyzing geometry
Nothing to export.
Exporting geometry to: /tmp/Untitled.obj
I've done this b4... lots of times in success.. but now y this? I've been doing grate, even the MOST BASIC Customs don't work 4 me anymore! I don't kno y... but I kno I'm following every step of the way on Messian Homepage. It would have been an EPIC CUSTOM if that dang error didn't appear like:
Exporting textures to: /tmphttp://jul.rustedlogic.net/images/squid.png
Nothing to export.
Analyzing geometry
Nothing to export.
Exporting geometry to: /tmp/Untitled.obj
Again... that is wat happened.. tried everything 2 fix it, about 2 quit at Custom Level SM64 Making... so can some1 plz help soon? I've also Selected ALL Faces/Geometry an then went 2 Obj. Import. Not working T.T. Plz help soon, so I can RELEASE "SM64 BATTLEFORTS ROM."

Thank You,
Jango.

P.S.:This:
Nothing to export.
Analyzing geometry
Nothing to export.
Exporting geometry to: /tmp/Untitled.obj
Just think of were it says Untitled.obj as a name of some kind, I always named my Sketch-Ups. All the same stuff happens reguardless, plz figure this out 4 me. An I kno I should create a Obj. Import File. for Wavefront with Blender, but I perfer Sketch-Up cause I have been succeedin' in it, if not, I will use Blender if u tell me 2.

If some1 wants 2 help kme with Blender, post the BEST Blender Guide u can find. Would have been EPIC cause I been using Google Sketch-Up a MILLION TIMES an always succeed, but now this is bull-hunky lol with Sketch-Up I dun get it y it failed EVER DANG TIME!!! Ugh! Failure :/. But getting better.

Yours Of Angry Failure,

Mine is all English Metal..... what is up with that? I know that I'm suppose to post in edit for comments starting now if u going to tell me.

-----------------
Another rule I forgot... now I see why.

------------------
By the way... only registered to get help, not to live here an enforce crud.. if that offends u dun take it personally.. cause someone told me watch out for Metal... and I don't know if I should say that. After I get help I'm leaving this site for good, I did so goodbye. U will see my EPIC ROM thanks, for the help, but you all lack a bit of experience to help. Check the garbage heap in two weeks, SM64 BATTLEFARTS.

Let me try to translate his problem:

He can't export anything from Google Sketchup because it analyzes the geometry, but finds nothing to export. He's tried selecting the geometry, to no avail.

Except I don't know what this is: "Triangulation Plug-In Makes Objects VANISH"

Apparently he panicked and downloaded random plugins that don't work. Best way I can interpret that and still make sense...

And he finds Blender very confusing.

And I have to ask...what is wrong with his English?!? I mean I've heard of n00b speak but this is just...weird.

I don't know, but as you may recall, it's against the rules to speak non-English as your main posting language, and I'm pretty sure that txtspeak doesn't count as 'English.'

The alt attribute should be used to give a short description
of an image; longer descriptions should be given with the
longdesc attribute which takes a URL linked to the description.
These measures are needed for people using non-graphical browsers.

For further advice on how to make your pages accessible
see http://www.w3.org/WAI/GL.
You are recommended to use CSS to specify the font and
properties such as its size and color. This will reduce
the size of HTML files and make them easier to maintain
compared with using <FONT> elements.

You are recommended to use CSS to control line wrapping.
Use "white-space: nowrap" to inhibit wrapping in place
of inserting <NOBR>...</NOBR> into the markup.
