He did have some valid points, though he was being a bit harsh with some of those comments . Aside, I didn't expect him to hate it that much, but he said he doesn't like fighting games in general, so some can be attributed to that.

I believe I've said it before: SSB has always been and will continue to be a primarily multiplayer game.

Yes I know this is a massive bump, but I figure it'll be a relevant enough post that the bump will be overlooked and it didn't seem like I should make a new thread.

So it's been over 8 months now since the game was released. Lately I've taken it upon myself to read through the whole of this thread just to see what it was like all those months ago, wondering what was in the game, getting excited, disappointed, amazed, infatuated and plenty of other emotions.

It's also fun to note how much stuff we actually called. Someone called ~35 characters for the final roster, that ended up being the number. The guy that leaked about the Dragoon Parts ended up being 100% correct in all of his predictions. I called Ike, final smashes were called, stages guessed right. Most of all, pants were shat at updates like Sonic and Stage Builder and even Xkeeper started agreeing that this would be the best game ever.

It's basically a big trip down memory lane in a way. It's fun to see what our posting was like over a year ago and how we acted.

So now that I've gotten that out of the way, I'm wondering what everyone still thinks of Brawl. Is it still the "best game ever?" Do you at least play it from time to time? Have your mains changed over the months? Skill increase? Stuff like that?

My skill has been increasing ever so slightly because I end up playing with tournament level players at the Student Center on campus. Those fights are rather interesting and I see all sorts of characters you'd not expect to be used being used very well, like DK, Olimar, Dedede. Luigi and Snake.

Personally, I've been developing as a Samus player. I'm getting better at using her and less good at ZSS. The other fighter I've been getting much better as is Ganondorf. Surprisingly, he's become probably my #2. There's something about the sheer power that he has in him that I just love to control. Not to mention Ganonciding is a lot of fun as a shocker move.

Recently I've been trying to teach myself how to play as Snake. I'd never seriously used him before a couple weeks ago and have found that I can take to him well. Obviously, I need more time to get better as him but I'm already doing well.

So yeah, just wondering what everyone out there still thinks of Brawl. Still having fun with it guys?

One last thing I forgot. A while back a track pack with the songs that were cut from Brawl was released: http://www.videogamescrapbook.com/super_smash_bros_brawl_ssbb/?music=1
There's some pretty good music on here. The ones that I like are Ballad of the Windfish, Eight Melodies and the main Theme from MGS2 Sons of Liberty.

I will agree with you on one point, It's the best MULTIplayer game ever.

But... Nintendo pretty much screwed us with the online play.

Another thought, there was a bigger leap between the original and melee than there was between melee and brawl.

That was the kind of feeling I was hoping to get again, that there was a huge gap between the new and previous game.

I still play this most of the time, nonetheless. Either just against computers, with a friend, or sometimes I do the singleplayer stuff.

The subspace emissary, was kinda weird. I never got around to using the whole sticker system to boost certian points of certian characters. I just went through without them. The cutscenes were very nice though, and the system on who you would fight depending on the choices you made was nifty to.

Another thing I liked about it's predecessors was the darker menus. These new menus are fine, but I like the darker feel of the old ones better.

I'm done blabbing. But one last thing... Why does everyone complain about items that I play with!?

Edit: Mario for the win.

I'm still enjoying brawl, personally. I play it nearly every day online with a friend of mine, and I am trying to develop my skill as a multitude of characters.[Mostly the lighter ones, as heavy characters dont appeal to me XD]
I'm good with Lucas, Olimar, Toon Link and Ness as of now. Working on Kirby and Ivysaur/pokemon trainer.
But last week i played some melee, and suprisingly enough, i was good at it. I won a match where I was pichu and i was fighting a marth, a roy and a pikachu XD

You best be joking.

The single player aspect was horrible.
-Classic Mode was hardly random anymore, making the entire mode boring as hell to play.
-Break The Targets is way too easy with some characters and way too hard with others simply because they don't have a stage suited for their special abilities anymore. At first I thought this would be fine, but the stages are boring.
-Talk about the most overhyped shit ever. The Subspace Emissary was good at first and then it kept going on and on. Then it had the fucking nerve to have you replay previous levels strung together as one level. That doesn't increase playtime in a good way. It just wastes time.
-Event Mode's choice of difficulty per event made everything way too easy to unlock.
-Boss Battles and Home Run Contest are the only good things.

Given I was expecting an experience similar to Melee for the single player, Brawl failed to deliver that. Doesn't help the load times for many of these modes makes it soooooooo much worse.

As for multiplayer... better, given you play with the right people.

Then the online. Oh how horrible the online is. Friend codes are a Wii universal problem, but that shouldn't be a damn excuse for anything anymore. With Anyone takes forever to get started then when you do start, you are playing the same games everytime, usually no items Final Destination. Spectator is useless if you can't have your friends watch your friend matches. And then the lag and lag spikes in the middle of a match.
I like playing for fun and setting the options all the time to random things. However, the people I play always seem to do no variety, picking 3 stock on Battlefield/Final Destination no items, completely making the game devoid of fun for a game about "skill." This is not a fighter. I wish they wouldn't try to make it so then pinning the lag that occurs on the person that does have items on.

Do you at least play it from time to time? Have your mains changed over the months? Skill increase? Stuff like that?
-Once a week for about 30 minutes at a time with people on my friends list only.
-Always random characters.
-How can my skills increase when the game doesn't require me to be good because the controls are common sense?

I'd probably say something like cpubasic13 said.

I still enjoy the game, but people do seem to take it a bit seriously. Althought I haven't got that many friends on my list to play with, but at least on the With Anyone. I've had superlag sometimes, but it isn't that bad nowadays.

Of course I am. I'm merely quoting ourselves from a year ago.

They may be common sense controls but that doesn't mean you can't get better with characters over time. There are definitely ways to increase your skill level.

Personally I can't stand the huge lags in online play, the time between hitting up to jump and actually jumping is pathetic.

I liked Single-Player, and local multiplayer is fairly fun. Apart from that? nope, not a great game.

Local multiplayer is definitely the best. I played 3 hours of it today in my dorm room and we had a blast playing.

To me, Brawl has become the game to play when you have a bunch of friends over and just want to have a good time. Other than that, I don't touch it. Despite all its features and stuff, it turned out much shallower than we all thought it would be.

I still play it from time to time when I come home from campus. In fact, just Saturday I played an amazing set of matches with my best friend. I saved at least half of them, twelve in total, including an incredibly dramatic duel between Ganondorf and Captain Falcon.

Now Dedede and Ganondorf are my main characters, with Samus as my backup in case I need to seriously kick some butt. The only reason I don't really use her much is because of her final smash leading to ZSS. Maybe I should train with her some more...

Oh yeah, and said same best friend has managed to get 100% of everything. Everything.

Screw no items 3 stock Final Destination, give me a buttload of bombs on Port Town Aero Dive. :V

I'd really enjoy playing some matches with the Jul crew. No Final Destination, just crazy item brawls.

I mainly play Snake, Ike if I want to play competitive and Mario for just fun games.

...maybe we could have another tournament sometime?

Not sure about a tournament, but we could definitely try something.

I've taken my liking to Ike. I heard about people spamming his smashes, but that's not my reason, it's that to me, he seems to be one of the most finely-tuned to be strong and agile simultaneous. I can jump around, strike a blow, run horizontally with an attack, e t c.
Secondary Captain Falcon, but I don't find the punch too useful. I usually smash an elbow or upper-leg for strong hits, sometimes using a directional special, but it takes a bit for me to start using the punch.
Besides that, I have about equal experience with everyone else, but the one I seem to perform worst with is DeDeDe. He's the only one where I can give a high chance of losing to my 10-year cousin who I've told for a long time that the character doesn't count, the player does. Is why I only try to avoid using him...

By the way, anyone have a custom stage preference? Mine's a box with a specific touch to it and one insert hole for the case of certain final smashes. I'll get a picture next time I can.

I only usually play local multiplayer too, since online matches tend to lag, although my matches with Peardian a while back didn't lag, and neither do some of my other matches.

Random ones seem to work fine, and I usually chose a wild and crazy level, with traps and stuff.

But I can't connect well with some people.

I never understood the appeal of all that crap. It seems like the Smash fanbase has some hardon for technical manoeuvres instead of strategy and tactical thinking.

One year later... Can you believe it's been a year since it was supposed to launch? Doesn't seem like as long as it really is.
