I went to a used computer store today and asked for iPods and for twenty bucks I got a 4th gen iPod Classic, black and white, typefaced in Chicago, 20GB. Just what I've been looking for.
There are 145 songs on it which is kinda cute. For the record, they are:
- The Essential Cheap Trick
- Elvis Presley's Elvis: 30 #1 Hits
- an assortment of Foo Fighters songs
- Green Day’s American Idiot and Nimrod
- Queens of the Stone Age’s Songs for the Deaf
- The Killer’s Hot Fuss
- “Jump into the Fire” by LCD Soundsystem
- The White Stripe’s Icky Thump and Get Behind Me Satan (labeled “emo”)
All the songs have three or fewer players except “Everlong” by Foo Fighters, which has five.
I'm pretty sure the person who owned this was, like, a dude and he probably never used it. Or something.
Either way, I restored the device to its original settings which was cool until it was all "hey, you need to plug me in" and nothing I was plugging it into was working and then I read on the Internet that I had to get a power brick or go to an Apple store to get it charged.
So I took the bus allll the way out to the suburbs and ran to the Apple store and told them what was up and they gave me a newer iPod charging brick and told me I could keep it as well as the cable and I could hang out in the store as long as I wanted while it was charging. Sweeeeet.
Now I'm trying to figure out how to populate 20GB. I'm telling myself only the albums that mean the most to me are getting through. It's tough, though throughout the week I'm sure I'll thoroughly sort it out.
I'm so happy I got this. Fuck new technology. Black and white displays forever.
