So I have a habit of writing a lot of bad poetry that I never finish. It will start out kind of good, then I lose inspiration and what not, then it starts gathering dust until its forgotten about, and than I realize it sucks anyway. I haven't written a poem in a while, but for some reason tonight I suddenly got hit with inspiration and wrote one. And the most surprising thing of all is I actually finished it I'm quite proud of it just for that reason alone This thing's about a situation in my life that happened about 2 years ago now. What do you guys think?

I Remember 19

I had found again the light of my past.

The light of my past that I had
so agonizingly missed and mourned.
The light I believed I had lost forever
and had loved
and once had known so long ago.

The light I had for so long embodied
in a dear friendship long stolen away.
Standing now before my eyes in a form
now alien to me
offering once again our friendship and eternal light.

But such a thing was not meant to last forever
simply through the darkness it was to guide,
For our story had ended when our love turned 20
and on that day, it died.

My love for him was unrequited
but I didn't know how to let it go.
I tried not to let the light make me blinded
but I failed
and our friendship fell apart with my selfishness.

He thought he could make it like nothing had happened
by telling just a few kind words and lies.
Just a game of broken promises all under his control, he
said was to protect
but was only meant to distract, lead on, and decieve.

But he lost control and his lies had failed and
the distance grew and the rift turned wide,
for that was the day that he turned 20
and on that day, he died.

I could never be his friend again
if I wasn't a drinking buddy or someone to get high with.
I couldn't offer him a smoke or the depression that instead of me
was part of his life
I had begun to see for what it really had become.

And looking at him then I realized
He had done what I always refused to do.
Where I had clung to hope and memory
my innocence and joy
and tried to walk the path I believed was right.

He simply let himself get swept out by the tides
And choose instead to live a life of dismal suicide,
For long ago his soul turned 20
and on that day, it died.

And at last the time came when he chose to break her heart
and leave her once again abandoned and alone.
An obligation no longer worth the time
of entertaining
a lifetime cast aside without a second thought.

And she cursed his name to the night
and tried to understand where she went wrong.
Knowing all the while that it was for the best
and she would heal
and that her precious light was always truly within her.

And she knew that within her it would always stay
and the tears fell no more as she cried,
For now at last she too turned 20
and on that day, she died.

The alt attribute should be used to give a short description
of an image; longer descriptions should be given with the
longdesc attribute which takes a URL linked to the description.
These measures are needed for people using non-graphical browsers.

For further advice on how to make your pages accessible
see http://www.w3.org/WAI/GL.
You are recommended to use CSS to specify the font and
properties such as its size and color. This will reduce
the size of HTML files and make them easier to maintain
compared with using <FONT> elements.

You are recommended to use CSS to control line wrapping.
Use "white-space: nowrap" to inhibit wrapping in place
of inserting <NOBR>...</NOBR> into the markup.
