Hi! my apologies if this is already known or if I'm incorrect, but I noticed the article for Sly Cooper was really lacking and I was curious if anyone knows what's been found so far, if anything.

I have no knowledge of how to dig through files (at the moment anyway) but I find these sort of things extremely interesting and noticed there isn't a whole lot known of the beta of Sly Cooper, apart from some early concept images floating around.

Anyhoo, I came across a rom of the 2001 demo; has anyone tried digging through that? I imagine there would be much more left over assets in the demo version, much like there was in the Starfox Adventures demo.

http://theisozone.com/downloads/playstation/ps2-isos/sly-cooper-and-the-thievius-raccoonus---e3-demo/

here are some more demos for more Sly games I was able to find:

Sly 3 Jampack demo: http://theisozone.com/downloads/playstation/ps2-isos/sly-3-honor-among-thieves---jampack-demo/

Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus E3 demo: http://theisozone.com/downloads/playstation/ps2-isos/sly-cooper-and-the-thievius-raccoonus---e3-demo/

Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus Jampack demo: http://theisozone.com/downloads/playstation/ps2-isos/sly-cooper-and-the-thievius-raccoonus---jampack-demo/

Sly Raccoon demo (PAL): http://theisozone.com/downloads/playstation/ps2-isos/sly-raccoon---demo/

Again, my apologies if this thread is in the redundant or is incorrect in anyway; if so, please let me know and I will delete it. Hopefully this is helpful to someone, though!

I've been meaning to take a look at the series for a little while now, but I'm not confident in my ability to determine what's an early or final asset. Sounds like you'd be more than capable of doing that though, so I'll try and prioritize this.

Sly Cooper 3 has some beta footage for 1, and 2 as well, it's been a while since I played the trilogy so I forget the exact bonuses. Unseen64 has some coverage of it:

http://www.unseen64.net/2009/04/21/sly-cooper-ps2-beta-prototype/

The demos might have leftover assets from the old design phases, and Im sure the actual video from sly3 is on youtube somewhere..

www.youtube.com/watch?v=JtAlxe-qcw8
the sly3 "evolution of sly cooper" video with proto sly 1/2 footage.
-haven't watched it myself recently, but aside from sly1 test levels/what looks like rayleigh's area, it has the sly2 cairo level.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZiqDB2n5RWw
sly3 test level

www.youtube.com/watch?v=WFCdnYP9MRA
sly2 beta icons

There's also a bunch of beta songs from sly3's demo on there as well. Which I would pull if my internet was cooperating better.

that should be a good start for comparisons between findings.

I've seen those videos actually! You can view them in-game in the second and third game after you beat them a certain percent, so they're aren't necessarily hard to find. I was more curious if any game rippers have been able to find anything else within the three game's data!

And yes, if you need any help, I have been playing the first and second Sly Cooper since childhood; if you were to show me something, I could easily tell you where it is and what purpose it serves, and whether it was in the final or not. I know these games very well, especially the first. I have not played the third yet, however.

Yeah, they aren't hidden, but the wiki seemed to be missing info so I figured here might be a good place to do some info dumping

Im definitely curious about the first game, there has to be some stuff left over in there.

Ah, yes. The first game's E3 demo has some unused stuff in it when you open the SLY.WAL file in a hex editor. I found this dialog in that file that starts at the offset 05987CD0 and ends at the offset 05988000 (note: This dialog calls him Sly, so the name JT wasn't used for long):

Hello Sly, do you read me?
Yeah Bentley, I hear ya
I've just identified a potential problem
See that filthy gate over there?
It blocks the only road going into Raleigh's hideout!
Hrmmm, OK This'll be a good chance for me to bust out my new climb move
Remember, you can only climb on certain objects, like ropes and pipes
or like that ladder over there?
Yeah, that looks safe enough
Now all you have to do is get close, jump, and hit the &2O& button to grab it
Yeah, yeah, jump and hit the &2O& to grab, no problem.

This is a leftover from one of the first builds of the game. Another thing I discovered was an enemy that was cut from the game. I found him by glitching myself past the invisible wall.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SGOCESY5RRY

I also uploaded the Sly 2 E3 demo yesterday:
http://www.theisozone.com/downloads/playstation/ps2-isos/sly-2-band-of-thieves---e3-demo/

He wasn't called JT for too long apparently; I've only seen once instance of him being called that. I wonder what it stands for. And actually I know what dialog you're talking about, there's a video where the developers commentated older builds of the game and that was one of them. The voice for "my new climb move" is pretty funny.

And nice find! he's actually the beta for the squid flashlight guard; thats pretty funny that they put both models in the demo, seeing as the other one is nearly identical to the final albeit a different color. What's the name of that level? I can't read it very well but it looks like it says "WW_t3_final"? That level's name in the final is "Gunboat Graveyard" so I can't really find any correlation between the two... did you find anything else interesting over there? or care to share how you got there?

One semi-interesting thing I've managed to find in the demo is a way to get out of bounds in the first level, above the waterfall. There's nothing up there, but this glitch can only be done in the demo; I tried it out on my official disk and it wasn't possible at all.

and thanks for the link! I'll definitely try it out.

I just realized there is a few trailers showing the game in it's beta stages, and it shows off the second world (Sunset Snake Eyes). It looks a bit different, but not by a lot.

Video:

EDIT: I found an early version of a cutscene!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MGRqJGTWm7g

Sly's voice, yet again, is totally different, and Murray has his old, Sly 1 design.

Oh, and check out this thread if you haven't found it already (It's about modding the game):

nice find! that's definitely an early mock up, as it completely lacks the polish the final has.

see http://www.w3.org/WAI/GL.
You are recommended to use CSS to specify the font and
properties such as its size and color. This will reduce
the size of HTML files and make them easier to maintain
compared with using <FONT> elements.

You are recommended to use CSS to control line wrapping.
Use "white-space: nowrap" to inhibit wrapping in place
of inserting <NOBR>...</NOBR> into the markup.
