The source to another version of Doom was released:

Not too familiar with this version, except for it being based on the Jaguar port and running awful in comparison. Took a quick look, the 3DO-specific code is pretty heavily commented, but nothing jumped out at me as being unused. It looks like all the game assets are included here too, not just the code.

There's an extra map in the WADs directory, based on a section of E2M5 from the PC version (which was cut from the Jaguar and other ports derived from it), no clue if that's actually accessible in the 3DO version or not but I figured I'd mention it. The section with the player start is new geometry, as far as I know.

No wonder the 3DO Doom was crap. Clearly, someone who was managing Data Art did not take into account the porting procedures. Ten weeks is simply not enough, no matter what one does (unless it's a very simple game you're porting). Shame, because it seems Becky did a good amount of work on it.

As for things commented out or plain unused, there are a couple more things to add to the article (if they still are in the final game).

There is a screenshot function commented out in ".../source/threedo.c".

There's also an EA logo that went unused, since it was Data Interactive who published it. EA was supposed to publish the game, but ultimately didn't. The files for that EA logo are ".../movies/ealogo.aiff" and ".../movies/ealogo.mov".

Those two are already on the page though. The two are in the source code too, unsurprisingly, and we get to see their internal names (before the titles were generalized to "Song 1", "Song 3", etc.). I find it funny how they skipped a ton of songs. However, this is also unsurprising, given that they had little time to work on their parts.

Overview. The separate sectors on the right are from E2M5, a section that was cut from the Jaguar version and other console ports derived from it.



Start room. This is loaded in PrBoom-plus with textures from the Jaguar version. The missing textures would be replaced by ASH01 in the actual console renderer.

The barrels in this room are done in a spiral pattern and will set each other off in a chain reaction.



Some inaccessible clips, heh. Fat lotta good they'd have done with this map's opposition.



Middle room, in all its zigg-zaggy ceilingness. There are imps with their back to you in this room.



The final and most elaborate room. Loaded with cacodemons and barons, so yeah, idkfa. The altar looks like it would've been an exit but there are no line actions set on it.

Wow. I genuinely feel bad for the person who did all the work on this port. The way the readme is written, it sounds like 10 weeks of coding hell. All of this because Art Data Interactive didn't understand what actually needed to be done to properly port the game. That blows.

Now that the source is released, I wonder if anyone is going to be ballsy enough to attempt to fix the port.
