I was doing some work on the SRAM for Lufia & The Fortress of Doom and dissecting the text library when I ran across the fact that there are several spells that have legit values that can be placed into a magic using character's list (Aguro has no SRAM space for a magic list, only Hero, Lufia, and Jerin do). Here is the list of magic spells that have hex values assigned to them, but which you never gain through normal means.

Defake = 0x31
Figual = 0x32
Paraiz = 0x33
Elegion = 0x34
Elegi = 0x35
Elegio = 0x36
Absobl = 0x37

Also of note is that most of these spells are either 0 or 1 MP to cast. And it's been awhile since I have played around with this, but Elegi/Elegio/Elegion are Bolt/Lightning/Thunder (I believe in that order), except instead of being able to hit only 1 enemy with them -- you hit all enemies when you cast this! Perhaps these were a leftover from testing for easy travel through the game?

Using the same hex editing power to tweak our carried items as we did with magic... In the list of items available in the game, you'll find that there are two items named "Bomb", at least 5 "Dummy" items, and then there's a "Free Door" on top of that.

Not only that, but several of these items, such as "Sheran Key", go into your Scenario page, not your item list... But can be added into your item list through this method anyway.

For more information and specifics, you can read what I've figured out so far here:

Cool stuff! This is the only Lufia game I've played, so it's nice to see someone looking through it, rather than the sequel. I'll be following your discoveries with interest. ^^

Thank you! It's hard to find time to work on it, but I do enjoy it.

Other good reading is from back in 2006 when some gamefaqs users started to delve into the Monster Data in this game. It's what got me started off on what I'm looking for, and I'm not sure there's much "secret" to it, but it may set someone off on a good path:

http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/588452-lufia-and-the-fortress-of-doom/30424903

For example, in the monster data, there are three versions of Gades, two of Amon, and two of Daos. And one byte apparently corresponds to the item they drop.

Using data there it may be possible to find if there are any unused sprites or things of that nature.

Other things from my working on Lufia I turned up that Elfrea was in my spell list for a warp location twice, and there is a town called "Makao" (which is not in the final game) and casting it just strands you. There was a discussion on this over at gamefaqs some time ago as well, lol:

The alt attribute should be used to give a short description
of an image; longer descriptions should be given with the
longdesc attribute which takes a URL linked to the description.
These measures are needed for people using non-graphical browsers.

For further advice on how to make your pages accessible
see http://www.w3.org/WAI/GL.
You are recommended to use CSS to specify the font and
properties such as its size and color. This will reduce
the size of HTML files and make them easier to maintain
compared with using <FONT> elements.

You are recommended to use CSS to control line wrapping.
Use "white-space: nowrap" to inhibit wrapping in place
of inserting <NOBR>...</NOBR> into the markup.
