No, the one on ours is an actual prototype of the FDS version, with honest-to-god differences from the final Japanese version. Judging by the description, if this proto has "no differences from the released version," then it's little more than a magazine review copy, if it's legit at all.

Unfortunately, this is not a very interesting prototype. For Zelda 1, it will have to find better than the FDS version that is a real wonder and is extremely rare.

Although I am very obsessed with prototypes of Zelda 64 and TWW, a prototype of Zelda 1 even older than the one we have, is one of my wildest dreams! Something of a rarity older than 25/26 years!

Weird they would use the yellow cartridge. There were yellow copies of Zelda distributed to repair stations for some reason IIRC.

If it really is identical to the final game, the only points of interest are the prototype MMC1 chip and the PCB itself. I don't think that's worth anything near $150,000 though.

The problem with that listing is that stupid "VGA graded" copy of the retail game. I'd bet that's what's driving up the seller's idea of a price here...

Without looking at anything, keep in mind that the sides of famicom disks were Side A and Side B, so it could simply be that is Side A of the disk (and ZEL-B is printed on the opposite side).

This is what I think as a priority, but that of "ZEL-B", there is only one label and nothing on the other side. Maybe she was simply detached.

However, the "ZEL-A" is another disc with "maybe" different data than "ZEL-B". Only is it difficult to learn about this copy since it is located in a collector...

I am surprised that another copy of this prototype exists and that is also went out from Nintendo Japan. The white disc FDS are rather rare objects.

This line caught my attention:

The prototype in this auction uses a custom board labeled "NES-SRP-TEST-02" which appears to have four EPROMs installed, probably 256Kbit each.

I am now certain this is just a test cartridge used by Nintendo World Class Service repair centers (SRP = Service and RePair?), or perhaps a prototype of one. It even uses the same yellow-orange casing the more common "final" version did. If that's the case, it almost certainly has the final ROMs on it, and is nothing more than a curiosity at best. Certainly not worth the completely ridiculous six-figure price tag.

From what I've been able to find, test cartridges use standard PCBs. The only exception is the port test, which looks like it was originally intended to test the EXP port. (I wonder if the ROM has any leftover code from those EXP port tests...)

I think it's actually a prototype SxROM cartridge. The MMC1 has a strange part number (LZ92A46) and a date code from November of 1986 (8647). The earliest known MMC1 chip in this database is from January of 1987.

Not surprisingly it doesn't look any different from the final NA release, but it ended up selling for $55,000. A huge price downstep (by $95,000), but it's still a very, very high price even with the near-mint Legend of Zelda. I would think the two would probably cost $3,500 at the most. I feel pity for the person who bought this, since there's nothing much of value.
