I recently discovered a copy of Busytown, a DOS game I used to play as a child, on a 2-gig hard drive I bought.

After going through the files, it appears that the audio files in the game (MIDI files) also have .WAV counterparts, which are low-quality vocal snippets of maybe 10 seconds each. I've tried the game on two computers, and on both, the computer plays the audio through the internal speaker.

Does anyone know a way to make the game use the WAV files instead of the MIDIs? I can't really tell if the WAVs are unused or not.

Here are the WAV files in question:
http://harvestmanman.webs.com/G0-MUSIC.WAV
http://harvestmanman.webs.com/G1-MUSIC.WAV
http://harvestmanman.webs.com/G2-MUSIC.WAV
http://harvestmanman.webs.com/G3-MUSIC.WAV
http://harvestmanman.webs.com/G4-MUSIC.WAV
http://harvestmanman.webs.com/G5-MUSIC.WAV
(There was a sixth file, but I put the MIDI file in the same directory into GXSCC and accidentally overwrote it...)
http://harvestmanman.webs.com/G7-MUSIC.WAV
(See #6.)
http://harvestmanman.webs.com/G9-MUSIC.WAV
http://harvestmanman.webs.com/G10MUSIC.WAV

As you can see, they're quite short, very low-quality, and rather badly edited.

THE BELOW STATEMENT IS A LIE

...and according to this series of videos...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h6WzfD_k7UU
...the WAV files are used, but in a later version of the game. Can anyone speculate on why they were included with an earlier version but not used?

This being a DOS game, I'd guess it defaults to the internal speaker when it isn't configured properly for anything better. You'll probably have to edit its configuration and run it in DOSBox.

And I'm completely wrong...the music playing through the speaker is neither a MIDI file nor a WAV file. I think it's an MNT file, which I can't open.

I can't seem to find configuration settings anywhere in the game's various directories either.

I thought I'd mention that I found out what the WAV files were for. When installing the game, there's an option to install "bonus music" (which is a series of 5- to 10-second-long WAV files). Kind of shitty bonus music if you ask me!

The alt attribute should be used to give a short description
of an image; longer descriptions should be given with the
longdesc attribute which takes a URL linked to the description.
These measures are needed for people using non-graphical browsers.

For further advice on how to make your pages accessible
see http://www.w3.org/WAI/GL.
You are recommended to use CSS to specify the font and
properties such as its size and color. This will reduce
the size of HTML files and make them easier to maintain
compared with using <FONT> elements.

You are recommended to use CSS to control line wrapping.
Use "white-space: nowrap" to inhibit wrapping in place
of inserting <NOBR>...</NOBR> into the markup.
