Yesterday, I made a very interesting discovery on "Cave08" the copy of three rooms of Wind Temple. Contrary to what you think, one of the three rooms contains the remains of an older version of Wind Temple! This is the largest room in the temple, you can go with a code or with the "Map Select" modified by myself.

Here is a picture where one can see two differences on the final version. The first is a stake for use with the Iron Boots and is located atop a helices at the top of the room. Pressing the stake, you bring up a chest that is already visible in the final version, except that it does not have the same color. Its content does not change.

The other difference in the picture, it is the door with a grid and two places of land to plant trees with Makar.

Last big difference in the room, the chest containing the Compass of the dungeon. Instead, there is a chest with 50 Rupees!

The rest are small differences, which I did not look too much detail.

A few days earlier, I also discovered in the boss room of the second dungeon there were two herbs outside the room.

Last interesting finding, it is at the top of the tower of Forsaken Fortress. There are two versions of this place:

1) The Forsaken Fortress the beginning where Link enters for the first time.

2) The Forsaken Fortress present on the map of the ocean.

As you can see from the two images, there is a difference with the spikes that surrounds the top of the tower. In the first image, there are spikes everywhere. This is an older version of the top of the tower. While the second image, there are zones for rest during the fight against the boss.

Dark Linkaël, I have your "Tincle Sky" model 90% complete.

http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?s062l7dc46ksl91

The model loads in dolphin no problem (I tested it in A_R00). The only thing left to do is to fix up the cloud texture since it looks choppy below the clouds (open texturecloudflipped.png and you will see what I mean). This is something that you should be able to do as all it would require is paint and blender to export a new OBJ file. When you modify textures, you will obviously need to make a new BDL model using the EXE version of obj2bdl. I have always been able to create a BDL from an exported OBJ file of the blender project. I included a readme for how to update the textures. Let me know if you need more help with this model. Please let me know what you think and be sure to let me know of any problems you might have with updating the textures.

Your model is too far from my results that I showed with my screenshot. I can not continue using your model, there is too much difference which is not good. However, I'll go file my version and see if you want to do something on it. "MAT3" is the only thing I want to see change (the blue sky).

Can you actually open this file? I can't seem to open it in bmdview2. It just crashes. If you think the MAT3 section of the file is the problem then try being crafty and replace it with the MAT3 section of the final sky model.

I've gone and done a ton of work editing the textures and models section. I added a little bit of new info and also tried to explain some of the sections better. I might try to add more info to the the unused rooms section as well. It is hard to properly describe these materials sometimes.

Anyway, here is a question for you guys that relates to the unused Fado model. Do you guys know how BRK files work or how to get them to work? I ask because the unused Fado model in Demo 45 has a BRK file called "fd_alfa_test.brk". I'm guessing here but if you read it literally it kind of looks like it says "Fado Alpha Test". With a name like that and with this old unused model, there is no way I couldn't be curious. Does anyone know how to get BRK files to work?

Try to open it from Explorer, it should work. I do not know why it will not open from download. The file works fine, you'll see just blue and black in the model.

The files "BRK", there is no way I think... I do not know why, yet they seem to be interesting to test.

From what I understand, .brk files are effects. My best guess is that the .brk for the early Fado model serves the same purpose as the .brk for the final one - the transparent effect that the ghost Sages have. I would suggest trying to restore the beta Fado model, but that's not possible considering that the early model has no animations that work with it.

"fd_alfa_test" is a bit like the ChuChus model "cc_beta". It does not specifically say that it is an old version. However, it would be interesting to know the files "BRK".

That could be true but the fact that it is paired with the old Fado model still has me interested. The fact that it also says test has me even more interested.

More than likely the "test" in "alfa_test" stands for just that - "Alpha test." Alpha testing is used to determine if pixels in a texture are transparent or not.

Quoting myself a week ago, kind of relevant to this thread:

Latest Wind Viewer + source code: http://magicstone.de/dzd/random/WWActorEdit_full.rar

Maybe not all that different from the last release actually, but it did have some changes - slightly improved TP support is one thing I remember. Also honestly, I don't know when (if?) I'll get back to this, so that's another reason for me to release the source now, hoping that someone else can improve upon it and such.

Here's one of them. I've got a couple that I'll post an explain tomorrow:

This is the first room of the Tower, from a top-down perspective, with culling turned... on? Off? I'm not sure.

The thing about this is that the "floor" is just a plane with a section boxed in. And despite the fact that there's an object with the water that changes its height, the floor has its own collision, even for the parts that you can't get to. It might just be my opinion, but I think this is clear evidence that the designer was in a rush to complete the model- so much so that he didn't bother to delete the extra pieces of the plane.

However, that minimap of this room from the wiki seems to have the same shape water-wise, but not land-wise. Could the floor here be from the pre-redesign TotG, with the bulk of the geometry replaced? Perhaps the original map was as large as the base plane. The collision was probably added so that Link wouldn't fall into nothingness if the the water object failed to load during testing.

Hold up:

Compare that to:

The proportions of the beta minimap almost perfectly match those of the base plane in the image above. What could this mean?

OK, one more tonight.

These two pictures are from Room18 of the Tower of the Gods. Room18 is the outdoor area just before the boss room.

Now. Notice how the texture doesn't repeat properly just below the tower's top. Also notice how the shading is inconsistent between the tower and the top. This change happens where the wall meets the floor of the top of the tower where the bell is (part of it is modeled in this map). The shading seen here is also consistent on the Tower's ocean model, which is an object called X_tower.

Based on this evidence, my hypothesis is that the top of the tower shown in the model of Room18 originally looked like Room20, the beta bell tower. When they redesigned the tower, they went in and remodeled the top, cutting it off and copy-pasting the top from X_tower onto it. This created the discrepancies seen in these photos.

This would make sense when you take a look at this image:

This is a comparison of Room18, Room19 and Room20. Room19 fits almost perfectly in the doorway that normally leads to Gohdan's room, and it fits inside the tower as shown in Room18; so does Room20. The fact that all three rooms fit together so well and the fact that they are numbered consecutively heavily suggests that at one point you would have entered these rooms one after another, starting with Room18.

I think it's still up for debate as to what exactly Room19 was used for. It is big enough to be a boss room, in my opinion, but it was cut very early as there are virtually no objects in it (not even a spawn point for Link, which is why the map won't load normally). Whether Room18 would have been the room immediately after or immediately before the boss room is currently a mystery.

Was dumping textures recently, and I found this kind of creepy image:

This rough image of Jabun's eyes and nose is found in the textures for the model "gyoei," which apparently means "fish shadow." On the actual model, the eye texture is blurred by a blue effect- which makes the model kind of freaky-looking. There's another model, "new_gyoei," that doesn't have this eye texture.

What's interesting about this is that there is concept art that is this exact concept-

Click

Because of the camera angles in the cutscene, new_gyoei and its accompanying (very unrealistic) wiggling animation are barely seen. This texture indicates that there was something more like the concept are planned.

It took me forever to finally get around to this post but better late than never I suppose. Quite a lot to dissect.

Room0:
What we can add to the page from here with no doubts is that remnants of this minimap still exist in the final model of this room. By remnants I mean that the model still contains the square portion of this old minimap. The floor/land looks similar in both versions of the map. I'll leave it to you how you would describe their differences. As to why the model still contains the remnants of the old minimap is debatable. It is possible that the room was rushed to be completed but you could just as easily say that they just didn't bother to remove the lower bounds of the square floor because, from a player perspective, it would look no different. The player can't see the lower bounds of the square anyway. It would have been more work for nothing. To me, it looks like the room started out as a square, they added land where they wanted to and when they were happy with the land setup they cutout the redundant areas with no land which are the bottom left and right corners of the square. But again, this is still debatable. Why the floor still exists as a model and as collision is strange to me. If it was going to be covered by water anyway then it seems like a waste to have it. I don't have a good answer why it’s there.

Room18:
I would agree that the top of the tower does look like it was added on at a later point. My question to you is why is the early version of the top of the tower smaller than the final? You can't simply replace what is currently at the top of the tower with this earlier version. I also find it strange how the older top is within the newer tower and not actually at the top. Even stranger is that the proportions of the new tower seem to match with Room 19 and 20.

Here is my theory. I believe that the final version of the top of the tower(the part that looks hacked) wasn't there at all to begin with. One supporting reason is that when you look out from the old top(from inside the tower) you can see through the tower model to the sea. Everything below the old top can't be seen. If you look up, the only thing that can be seen is the hacked part of the new tower. If that is removed then it appears that you have an open sky. Again with more theories and crap...

Room19 and 20:
I would be damn surprised if Room 19 wasn't an early boss room. It is the room right before the bell tower so, in my opinion, it is clear that it is a boss room regardless of it being empty. It is pretty obvious what to talk about here on the page.

I can't say too much about Jabun right now. The only thing I can say is if it is unused, add it.

I remember we were talking about the ToTG top a while back...

My conclusion about it was that, either the dimensions of the tower changed substantially, or they just blew the top up to make it fit.

This would make sense because the final version of the top, which from what I understand is just the top of X_tower, is actually smaller than the version from room 19.

Also, look at the textures of Room19... it's much uglier than X_tower. And the top of Room19 is missing the structure for the bell. Now it's likely that they were just removed to save polygons but if that was the case, the entire inside of the top wouldn't be modeled. I'd say that it's more likely that as the modelers were scrambling to finish the tower, the person responsible just slipped on an early WIP of the top (which didn't have the bell structure), because the top wasn't considered finished yet.

Here is a small oddity. If you load K_Test3 in game, you are presented with a certain number of characters loaded in map. If you load the same map in Wind Viewer then you immediately notice that there are more actors present in the map than what appears to be loaded in game. Why is this?

Most likely, their parameters are messed up or just not set right. If you want to get them to load, I think you should try zeroing out their parameters - or, take the parameters for an actor that does load and copy them to the ones that don't.

There can be multiple chunks of the same type, suffixed with a single digit number or lowercase letter, if I remember correctly - so ex. ACTR, ACT0, ACT1, etc. I'm guessing those are pretty much like "object sets" in OoT/MM, and the game determines which of the chunks to use and render by game progress or whatever at runtime. Wind Viewer just renders all chunks at once and there's currently no way to disable rendering of certain chunks, or to make it only render one at a time.

Yes, that is correct, Xdan. There's always a main ACTR chunk that tells what's always loaded (like mailboxes, grass, trees...), and then ACTx chunks for characters/obstacles/what-have-you that get loaded when certain flags are set. But the ones Cuber is talking about are all in an ACTR chunk.

I think that Xdaniel is correct that only certain NPC actors will be loaded depending on game progress. Whenever you load a map from the map select, it seems all NPCs will say things and be in animations that are found in a new game file. The map select loads before any game file is chosen so it might as well be a new game. When I loaded the test map from a completed game file and used an AR code to reach the same test level, some actors changed what they said and some new ones appeared as well as some disappeared.

By the way, is it possible to load the map select menu in game instead of only before the file select?

I was checking out I_SubAN and recently documented a crap load of info onto the page about it. I have a few things I want to bring up that could lead to interesting finds. Some of the rooms in this group will have warps that crash the game. In the rooms in this group where you can warp, Link comes out of a hole in the ground. Is it possible to figure out where these warps would have lead to? For example, maybe these crashes occur because Link is warping to an island that doesn't have a hole he can come out of. It would be cool if we could figure that out for the Room2 in particular.

The second thing I want to bring up is that I can't load Room4 in-game. Am I the only one? This ticks me off because I think that there is a treasure chest in that room according to Wind Viewer.

Well, for one, treasure chests are supposed to be in their own DZx section - not actors. So that's abnormal. I might look into translating the actor format into the TRES DZx format.

As for the exits... If I'm reading the exits for the rooms right, this is where they go:

Room0 - Fire Mountain
Room1 - Ice Ring Isle
Room2 - Crescent Moon Isle (This island doesn't have a grotto.)
Room3 - Diamond Steppe Island
Room4 - Islet of Steel (This island doesn't have a grotto, but it does have a Triforce Chart cave.)
Room5 - Bomb Island
Room6 - Star Island
Room7 - Cliff Plateau Isles
Room8 - Rock Spire Isle
Room9 - Angular Isles
Room10 - Stone Watcher Island
Room11 - Overlook Island
Room12 - Bird's Peak Rock
Room13 - One of the Fairy Isles
Room14 - Another Fairy Isle
Room15 - Another Fairy Isle
Room16 - Bird's Peak Rock (Again)

Interesting. Some of the islands that have key items in the final had these grottoes. I'm going to wager a guess that the island order wasn't final when these were made, but that's pure conjecture.

Edit: OK, so here are the possible chest contents from that weird actor:

20 = Telescope
02 = Blue Rupee
7E = Deciphered Triforce Chart

Based on where Room4 is supposed to exit to (Islet of Steel), I'm thinking that the intended chest contents is the Triforce Chart. The fact that the ID used is one of the deciphered charts suggests that you weren't always supposed to have Tingle decipher them.

The alt attribute should be used to give a short description
of an image; longer descriptions should be given with the
longdesc attribute which takes a URL linked to the description.
These measures are needed for people using non-graphical browsers.

For further advice on how to make your pages accessible
see http://www.w3.org/WAI/GL.
You are recommended to use CSS to specify the font and
properties such as its size and color. This will reduce
the size of HTML files and make them easier to maintain
compared with using <FONT> elements.

You are recommended to use CSS to control line wrapping.
Use "white-space: nowrap" to inhibit wrapping in place
of inserting <NOBR>...</NOBR> into the markup.
