So, Jul. I figured since I love you guys so much, I'll share the newest thing I'm working on. Fun!

What is Kawa Crossing? Kawa Crossing is a new comic project written by myself in entirely new locale set in the Universe of the Sonic the Hedgehog comics. This is totally not going to be a sprite comic either! You'll meet a brand new cast set in an area that has an "East meets West" flavor to it. Kawa Crossing itself is the primary city that the comic takes place in, with a rich history that will be revealed as the comic goes on. However, this is not to say that you might not see some cameos or roles from other official characters in the comic. It's all in the same universe.

The comic centers around the Kawa Crossing Defense Clan and some of its allies and friends. What is the Kawa Crossing Defense Clan? Well, think of it as just a differently-named Freedom Fighters group. They also take on important local problems as well, so they double as the authorities when need-be. The Kawa Crossing Defense Clan consists of:

Hammer (Real Name: Ivan Carrington) - The leader of the Kawa Crossing Defense Clan as well as the son of successful Kawa Crossing businessman Cuthbert Carrington. His go-getter attitude he inherited from his wealthy dad may cause him some problems, but he always tries to do the right thing at heart. Nicknamed "Hammer" for his heavy-hitting strike attacks, which have earned him success and respect.
Yori the Chameleon - Every Dragon Kingdom-esque place needs a ninja, and Yori fills that role well! Yori is a self-trained ninjutsu master with many tricks up his sleeve, including his natural invisibility ability. Many consider him to be the Kawa Crossing Defense Clan's greatest asset. He is never seen without his ninja garb in public.
Jewel Kaminari (Upper Left) - Jewel Kaminari is the younger daughter of the esteemed Kaminari family. She is the Kawa Crossing Defense Clan's resident technician. There's not a machine, weapon, or mechanical trinket this prodigy couldn't build!

And as well, some friends of theirs are part of this little crew.

Rick Fox - Thought of to have been touched by Kawa Crossing's guardian Great Kitsune Spirit because of his two tails, Rick Fox has had heavy expectations placed on his shoulders ever since he was young. These excessively high expectations have made him somewhat touchy, but he has still done good in his own right. He trained alongside Hammer in fighting, specializing in grappling, with some parkour on the side.
Lynn Buki - Lynn moved to Kawa Crossing about five years prior to the start of the comic, but has fit in extremely well in the city and made friends quickly. She doesn't talk much about where she came from, but her attitude and her bo staff skill have earned her respect in Kawa Crossing. She also enjoys card games.

Currently, the other staff (who don't attend this forum) are hard at work on the first page. Here is a preview direct from the penciler! I'll post the full page once it's actually done, but this should be enough to whet your appetite, I hope. =)

I'm on the same boat as Pandaren. Never really loved Sonic-style art, but it looks pretty good here.

I am wondering if you are planning on shading, though. The colored version looks a little flat as-is, and it kind of detracts from the overall atmosphere that wants to be conveyed.

Well I couldn't really answer that question until now, Gabu. We spent a while kind of in limbo between pages because of the other staff having problems, but now we have a new colorist, and Page 2 is out!



Methinks that the coloring has vastly improved. =)

Just a small little random art update.

This isn't so much an actual page yet (but Page 6 is coming shortly!), but over the last year, I've commissioned Sonic comic pencilist Tracy Yardley to draw a couple of the Kawa Crossing cast. Kind of fitting, as it's set around the Sonic comic anyway! I figured now would be a neat time to show you the results of both of them!
