I always make sure during the Christmas season that I listen to the Oak Ridge Boys Christmas CD all the way through, and also watch A Christmas Story.

Funny enough, I'm doing the latter as I post. o.o

Not much anymore now that I'm far away from my parents.

We used to do a lot, though. We'd put up decorations usually starting around Thanksgiving (US, not Canadian), then get a real Christmas tree from a tree farm about a week before Christmas. On Christmas Eve, we'd drive around and look at any holiday lights and displays. Then, on Christmas morning I'd get up earlier and sort the gifts in the living room into piles, and we'd take turns opening them. I'd count how many presents there were. We'd go to my grandma's house and get a few things there and give her her presents and often play with her kitties. Then, we'd look in our stockings and do my dad's birthday around noon (he was born on Christmas Day).

Then, it's usually a day of reading books and playing video games and using and setting up gifts of various types.

This year, though, I'm off on my own in Seattle and my parents are doing Christmas back in Redneckistan, Michigan. I'll probably open my stuff tomorrow morning and then go on Jul or something

Make some fun little ones up then! They get pretty fun and memorable, I guess.

I dunno, I'm kind of a holiday whore, so...yeah.

-I always get to open one present on Christmas Eve. This year it was a Squishable T-Rex.
-Midnight Mass, unfortunately.

I think that's it.

Our family's biggest tradition is the Christmas Eve party at my uncle's house, which I just got back from...

Usually Christmas itself is just limited to my immediate family... though this year my younger brother's girlfriend will be showing up, which is kind of different...

For a while, we'd have a second Christmas a few days before or after where the whole family (well, dad's side only) would meet in Michigan and exchange presents. After a while, the kids grew up and they stopped doing that.

I used to get two Christmases: One from my parents, one from my grandparents.

Grandparents are pretty much gone, and money's tight. Got some small gifts, but probably won't be up for anything tradition-y until I move out.

I usually wake everyone up at 7am with really loud music/noises. This started because one year I set my alarm (it's the kind that just turns on the radio when it goes off) but I accidentally had the volume so high that it woke up everyone is the house .

Our traditions have changed quite a bit over the years, and many have vanished entirely, but a few have stuck around, and a few have been invented in recent years. The main thing is that we always have our major gift exchange on Christmas Eve, and then a smaller gift exchange at my grandparents on Christmas Day along with Christmas dinner that I help my grandma cook. My grandma died last year though, and her husband is still getting settled into everything (he's not really my grandfather, but I am close to him and he's the closest thing I have to one anymore. We all call him "dadaw" but to everyone else I still refer to him as my "grandma's husband". I like to be precise like that I guess). As a result, our traditions are kind of thrown up into the air this year until we can figure out what our new thing is going to be. So far this year seems to be full of "exceptions" rather than traditions.

First off, this is the first Christmas of my sister's new baby, so she wanted to have our main get together be at her house this year along with all of her boyfriend's extended family that I barely know and frankly kind of get on my nerves. This is weird for me because Christmas has always been a thing for strictly immediate family for us, but my dad and I just kind of bit the bullet and went along with it this year. Hopefully this doesn't end up becoming a tradition because the evening was more tolerable than it was enjoyable to say the least.

We're still trying to do the second gift exchange thing going though by keeping the gifts for me, my dad, and "dadaw" over here so we can have our own quiet get together today like we used to. But we're not cooking which frankly is fine by me because it was always just major stress. Instead, we're doing another Holiday tradition, deli meats from Schumann's Deli! We'd always have this as our diner on Christmas Eve, but now we're doing it on Christmas Day. Also, if we get time tonight, we might go out and look at Christmas lights. That was always a Christmas Eve tradition too.

Wake up at 7.
Wait for Dad to get up.
Open presents.
Eat chocolate.
Go to gran's house.
More presents.
Go to grandma and grandad's house.
Christmas dinner.
MOAR presents.

Unfortunately, the Christmas dinner is at my house with just me, mum and dad and the MOAR presents has to wait until tomorrow

This minus the midnight mass.
I always thought we were the only ones who opened one present on the Eve!

Though we didn't this year..

I go out to dinner with my Father's side of the family on the 24th, and we exchange gifts with each other, which is pretty cool. On the 25th I go over to my grandmother's house and see my mother's side of the family, which is also pretty cool, since I rarely, if ever, see anyone in my family besides these times.
On the 26th, I go over to my best friends house and we screw around and have much shenanigans.
I like my traditions!
