Hey there! Welcome to the F-Zero X editor board, where the events of the times will be recorded for all to forget about. I'll be organizing this thing in a bit of a different manner, so be sure to read up on the other topics for more information.

Basically, I need to know what everyone can do. Then, depending on how many people we have available for which things, I'll be assigning you guys tasks and maybe partners. Don't worry: this isn't like school. I want the more experienced members of the team to help the less experienced become better. And if we have plenty of people available to do that, that's just what we'll do.

In the end, I want everyone to feel good about this project and that everyone feels they are contributing. If anything doesn't feel quite right, be sure to let me know.
___________

For this project, I will be handing out assignments for the team to work on during the production of the editor. What I need to know, therefore, is everyone's skill set and proficiency.

What we need:
* Please introduce yourself! If we're gonna have a team, we'll need to know who else is on board. Drop your name and a few notes about yourself.
* On a scale of 1 to 5, rate yourself on how well you know F-Zero X. This could be your knowledge of the game's mechanics, or your observations of how the game functions. 1 would be barely having played it; 5 would be picking it apart from the inside out.
* On a scale of 1 to 5, rate yourself on how well you are able to program. The language chosen to program the editor notwithstanding, state what level of proficiency you feel that you have in programming. 1 would be very little experience; 5 would be master of the art. Also give a little bit of information about the kind of programming you can do.
* On a scale of 1 to 5, rate yourself on how well you are able to hack ROMs. 1 would be basic use of a hex editor; 5 would be reprogramming your own routines.
* Post any other skills you might have. Even if you don't know if they'd be particularly useful. You never know!

Be honest. This is not a "who's better than whom" contest, so state what you feel most accurately represents yourself. Also, don't give numbers less than 1 or greater than 5; that's not cute.
__________

My personal stats:

Introduction:
I'm Guy Perfect! My username said so. I'm a long-time fan of the F-Zero series and I fancy myself pretty good at what I do. I've been interested in ROM hacking for years, and made a level editor for F-Zero X because no one could get ahold of the Expansion Kit. Well, I myself got ahold of one, and now hackers have even dumped the ROM of it. That in mind, I'm starting up this project to see what kind of ROM hacking history can be made, and I'm inviting you guys to take part in it!

F-Zero X Knowledge: 5
I've made a level editor for this game in the past. I was able to hack the game fairly easily at that, because I'd made so many observations about how the levels are set up that I had a pretty good idea what I was looking for.

Programming Proficiency: 5
I'm a veteran programmer with, uh... at least 12 years now... can't remember when I started. Anyhow, I've done all kinds of programming, from hacking (obviously) to internet, to audio, to 3D, database, server-side, imaging, file storage, compression and encryption, etc. If it can be programmed, I've probably programmed it.

ROM Hacking Proficiency: 3
Yeah. 3. I've never traced a single line of code, and my knowledge of assembly is limited to what the opcodes do. My primary technique for finding data in ROMs is carefully controlled corruption (which is very effective; this is not the thread to discuss it), which leaves me in a state of limitation. I was able to hack F-Zero X this way, but it can only take a person so far.

Other Skills:
Audio/Video processing, document formatting, ghost recording, anything listed in Programming Efficiency.
__________

So go ahead and drop a line. The sooner we get some volunteers ready, the sooner we can start development.

I'm Kles. I never really even played F-Zero X much until the first editor came around. Totally loved it. Willing to help.

I can't work on any technical aspects but I should be able to assist on the outside work.

F-Zero X Knowledge: 1. Sorry, I just can't tell you too much about the depth of this game. I never really played it on the 64 at all so it's just not what I know well. I'm interested though, and willing to learn.

Programming: 1. I hate it. I hate programming a lot.

ROM hacking: 2. I can find out the basics, how to exploit them and make minor adjustments, but I don't think I'd be able to re-code anything.

Other skills: I have a big fat mouth and even people who dislike me because I tend to be a bitch still like me because I'm apparently just generally really good to be around. I'm good with people, apparently! I wouldn't call myself a leader but I have a good sense of people and how they act (basic human psychology is a talent of mine), so I think I could help there.

I'm also pretty good at grabbing attention. I know a bunch of people in various places so I should be able to attract attention towards the project.

I just know how to Get Stuff Done™.

Intro. Yes, yes, I am, of course, Madman200. ...should've capped the second m. Anyways, I have my own way of thinking, and I know nobody who thinks in the way that I do. Overly complex and understood by myself only sometimes.

F-Zero X IQ = 4
I got the game on the Wii (Legal), and had a bit of a time with it. Unfortunately, I never did get into advanced techniques, and either turned into a pinball on turning sections, or fell off on that one multi-segment track in the third cup. I've played all 4 modes, so I know how they want to work...but I never did like the Death track.

Programmng Skill = 1
I would have put 0, but you stated 1 to 5 only. Most, if not all, programming languages are as foreign as Hylian to me, but I did use a TI-86 Calculator's program mode to make a few programs. Example: Counting program where you specify where to start and how much to add each time

ROH Macking Skill = 1
The only actual hacking I've done with ROMs is using other people's programs to mess around with the insides the way the program was intended to do it. And that doesn't count, does it? I tried to use a HEX Editor once...but I couldn't understand it as well as I understood the ROM addresses that I had. Something like...00######:00 I think.

As for the other skills, I tend to like gimmicking. Remember Block Tool for SMW? I once put the Music Blocks (that change the music when touched) inside a cave, to where it would change from cave music to water music once you got to the water, and to change back if you returned. Some other gimmicking is this editable coding for the stats of Mario Kart DS in the kart you're using...Top Speed, Acceleration, Off-Road 1 Speed, Average Speed...there's quite an amount of adjust on it.

Punch line is...there is no punch line. Or a fork. Or a knife. Or a table to put the spoon on. He should've took more than just that spoon...(That's why there is no spoon)

My name is prominently displayed at the top of this post. I'm a computer science major that likes to play games. The closest I've ever come to ROM hacking in my life if opening SMW in Lunar Magic and editing level 105.

F-Zero X IQ: 1.5
I never owned a physical copy of the game; I've only emulated it. I haven't even emulated it that much. I've raced quite a few times, but that's about it. I can't say I'm terribly knowledgeable about the different game modes or how the game's physics work.

Programming Skill: 2.5
Something tells me this editor won't be written in PHP or TI-83+ BASIC, which are the two programming languages I am comfortable with. With that being said, I am eager to learn pretty much any language we choose (lolcode, anyone?) and I consider myself an extremely fast learner when it comes to programming.

ROM hacking skill: 1
I would put 0 if it was an option. I have never opened up a ROM in a hex editor in my life, and all I know about ROMs is that they have these things called headers and then a bunch of other stuff.

Other skills: Hmm... I think I'm pretty good at completing things by a deadline. I have a fair amount of HTML knowledge, though nothing spectacular. I also like image/video/audio editing, although I can't say I'm terribly skilled at it.

Hello.

My name is smkdan and while I am quite fond of smk I have an interest in the F-Zero series. I own the cart on the 64 and completed the cups on master difficulty after some persistence.

F-Zero X IQ: 4
I think I'm pretty good at the game, enough to drift for the speed boost and to know that miserable handling is really a blessing. I know nothing about the game's internals, though.

Programming Skill: 3
I know what goes into making a level editor, even though I've never actually made one myself. I know enough about C, but that's really all I know. The rest of my programming knowledge is in ASM with a few CPUs. My first 'meaningful' C program suitably involved a CPU emulator.

ROM hacking skill: 5
I've 'reprogrammed my own routines', so I think I'll give myself that 5. All those routines were with the SNES, though, so the 64 is pretty foreign to me.

F-Zero: 1/5 - I think I recall opening it up in project 64 and playing it a bit but not much.

Programming: 2/5 - I know the basics of C but I'm not very well practiced. I made Space Invaders using C and SDL. I know QBASIC fairly well but that's pretty useless.

ROM Hacking: 1/5 - I've used level editors before. I'm fairly decent finding RAM addresses using cheat search functions and I've poked around with hex editors but never accomplished anything.

Other than that, I can sorta do graphics but not fantastic at it.

My personal stats:

Introduction:

My name is Philippe Brodier, I' m a long time F-zero fan, F-Zero X is, by far, my favorite. I bought the PAL game back in November 1998 then the Japanese version in early 2000 ( I think ). I get the Nintendo 64DD in december 2004 with my first expansion kit and I bought several of them later. I am on FZX fan site since 2003 with F-Zero central and then on MFO, I shared more than 200 videos of FZX custom tracks on youtube. My english is not really good, I' m french.

F-Zero X Knowledge: 5

I truly almost totally finished F-Zero X, I explain, I won each cup in each difficulty with every ship on the pal game then I finished the Japanese version and the two cups from the expansion kit the same way but only on master difficulty, this way I was able to see the real FZX ending with Mr Ead dancing. I don' t know if other people did it before me. I think I can say that I am an advanced player who knows most of the technics, I did beat all the Staff ghosts and I have a world record on Sand Ocean 3, an expansion kit track. I built around 300 tracks on the expansion kits and nearly half of them with the F-Zero Execution project. I know both the expansion kit and the Execution Project very well as a user.

Programming Proficiency: 1

I never programed anything, I think I can learn basic stuff, the most complicated thing I did is using Mugen well.

ROM Hacking Proficiency: 1

Same problem, I never did that ...

Other skills :

I' am a verifier, I check video quality of Beta Digital ( or HD ) tapes for TV and DVD, I use to be patient and very concentrate to do that during 8 hours every day.
I have video montage knowledge and a Pinnacle PCI 500 + tools.
I have the time to help, I am determinate and I can learn.
I really want to be a part of this project.
I hope I can be usefull.

Introduction:
Hi there. If you look to your left, you will see my name (Hint: It's blue). Anyway, F-Zero is probably my third favorite Nintendo series after Mario and WarioWare. I have physical copies of X, GX, and GP Legend, and I have the original on my Wii's Virtual Console.

F-Zero X Knowledge: 4.5
Like I said, since I have copies of X, GX, and GP Legend, and the original on my Wii's Virtual Console, I have a pretty firm understanding of how the game plays and whatnot.

Programming Proficiency: 4
I'm pretty good at programming, specifically VB. Need I say more?

ROM Hacking Proficiency: 3
I Rom Hacking, though my knowledge is mainly limited to SMW and Pokemon, though I am good at hex and graphics editing.

Other Skills:

HTML, images, and videos

I'm Metal Knuckles. If you're part of the Sonic ROM Hacking scene, you've probably had to deal with me at some point. Nice guy, with a bit of ever-present sarcasm. I also detest people with lackluster typing skills.

F-Zero X : 3
While I've owned the game since it came out, my play time on it has been limited to unlocking all the features and then playing it occasionally with friends. I won't consider myself so daft however as to not know what people are talking about when refering to different parts of the game.

Programming: 2+
I currently only know some C++ and Hex editing, so it probably wouldn't be to difficult and start learning C. However, the 2+ is meant to represent more knowledge being gained as the project goes on. I'm in a Bachelor's program for Game Programming right now, and I'll be learning more programming as I go along.

ROM Hacking: 2
I have experience messing around in hex editors for multiple platforms (GBA, SNES, GENS, GB), as well as using tile editors for said platforms. I don't imagine myself anywhere near being able to decompress mysterious formats, however.

Other: 5
Graphics editing and sexual favors.

Programming: 2
i think i sucks in programing, but i know a bit of it, but i hate HEX...

ROM Hacking: 5
well all i can say is that i love ROM hacking! im working in 2 ROMs hacking these days (007G and SM64), and i think i going good, i finished some mods in 007 and send then to goldeneye vault and the sm64 i fixing some bugs.

Other: 4
Re-skining, and re-modeling, im good in then, i don't use these skils in ROMs, i prefer spend my time Re-skining in halo 2 maps....

A bit of a clarification here. Not to brush off anyone's particular skills, but when I said "ROM Hacking" what I had in mind was specifically picking apart a ROM to see how it works. Using tools to modify ROMs is not what I intended to suggest as ROM hacking.

The alt attribute should be used to give a short description
of an image; longer descriptions should be given with the
longdesc attribute which takes a URL linked to the description.
These measures are needed for people using non-graphical browsers.

For further advice on how to make your pages accessible
see http://www.w3.org/WAI/GL.
You are recommended to use CSS to specify the font and
properties such as its size and color. This will reduce
the size of HTML files and make them easier to maintain
compared with using <FONT> elements.

You are recommended to use CSS to control line wrapping.
Use "white-space: nowrap" to inhibit wrapping in place
of inserting <NOBR>...</NOBR> into the markup.
