I'm in the middle of Act II right now with my Berzerker. I had found a unique mace that did a ton of damage and on-hit effects; most notably was a 10% chance to cast Meteor on kill. I was having to fight every fight carefully up until then... but then when I equipped the mace, the entire area became a cakewalk! I would charge in, immediately killing monsters that used to take 3-6 hits apiece, then a giant meteor would come crashing down, killing everything else... and proccing another meteor or two!
My rampage was gratifying, only for the next area to ramp up in difficulty. It seemed to almost adapt to my power, making me want to become even stronger.
I love how the game does this. It teases you with supremacy from time to time and makes you want to get stronger!

Originally posted by Peardian The story for Pokémon Black/White is actually quite thought-provoking. I'm sure parts of it will just sail over the heads of the younger kids who play the game (especially the kind who like to mash A to skip all dialogue), which is interesting considering that's a huge part of the demographic. For a children's game, it brings up a lot of philosophical questions, such as what makes something right or wrong. Even the two legendary Pokémon represent abstract concepts, with one being "truth" and the other "ideals". One line of dialogue that sticks out to me in particular (probably because it's the most recent one I re-encountered) comes from the two little kids running in a circle in the daycare. To paraphrase, the little boy says "Am I chasing him, or is he chasing me? As we change our perspective, the reality changes." That's certainly something to think on.
Most of the people that I know absolutely hated the storyline of B/W, but I found it to be the first one with a legitimately good story, mostly for these reasons. Every time I encountered N, I never felt like he was a villain. In fact, I felt as though I was a jailer and actually felt a little bad for my Pokémon (even though they're just bits of data in a game cartridge). This character made me completely rethink everything that I knew about Pokémon and that there are always two sides to every story, just like in real life.
Much better than, "We're Team Rocket! We're going to steal your Pokémon! Why? Because we're EEEEVILLLLLLL!"

I guess that school and me generally not being home on the weekends/during the majority of the day has taken its toll... but then again, this is probably the most active I have been on forums since forever, so... :specialed:

I'm with Lunaria -- Pokémon.
I started playing back before it really boomed. I grew up with it, and while the games have changed a bit over time, they stuck to the same formula that made it a success in the first place. Another great thing is that while the gameplay is incredibly easy for somebody to pick up and learn, it takes a lot of patience to master. The games are easy but I was completely overwhelmed when I first learned about EV training, something that makes or breaks your metagame team.

Thank you, you said it much better than I could.
You know, I have to agree with this. Back on the SNES, even though I love the system and a ton of games for it, it's the only one that I can think of that just seems like a work of art.

My girlfriend just bought this as well. She started off as an Embermage, no idea how to play, and she skipped past most of the content and ended up at Grell's at level 7. I played some multiplayer with her as a sword and board Engineer and she giggled maniacally when we made Grell our bitch!
