Man, this semester seems to be the year of the awesome professors. My Claculus Professor is the stereotypical dorky professor. He is taller than a Samoan and skinny as a rail. I got so excited when he quoted from Dorkness Rising. The best part is he tells TONS of nerdy math, science, and history jokes. It is amazing!

Then there is my Programming Professor. This guy has been working as a professional programmer for 30 years and he is brilliant. His humor is very pun oriented which makes the class even more awesome.

My Structured Cabling teacher is a jovial man from Ghana who has been wiring houses since he was 12.

This year is going to be chock full of awesome.

What about the rest of you? What are your professors like if you are in school? Or if not, who was your favorite professor?

Edit: I suppose I should have included regular teachers too. Feel free to talk about your favorite teacher too

I noticed that Sun Microsystem's web page is gone and JDE (Java Development Environment) is only downloadable from Oracle's website. Did Sun sell out to Oracle or something?

Oh, that one passed me by completely. I was just surprised because I program in Java and I didn't hear about it. I must have had my annual "Live Under a Rock Day" or something...

Did you know there is a MASSIVE book called the "Book of Pi" that lists all the digits of the latest calculation of Pi? There are also several super computers devoted to solving Pi...nothing else...just Pi.

On a related note, what do you think will happen when we actually solve Pi?

I really don't mind using social networking sites. My mom is all up in arms about the dangers of identity theft on those sites but I am not worried about it. I have mine locked up tight. You can't even search for me on Facebook.

I mostly use Facebook, but I do have a Livejournal and a Devart.

...

Pi is irrational and transcendental, which means it has an infinite decimal expansion. Therefore, it is impossible to 'solve' Pi in the sense of knowing its exact numerical value, however close we might be able to approximate it.

Yes I know that Pi behaves this way, but in the far off future we might solve it...

Well the concept of "Math" hasn't been known to humanity for a very long in the cosmic scheme of the universe. We are still a very young sentient species.

I think it's more like, adults should get 7-8 hours (although the average is less, at least in the USA), but less as they grow older and elderly people only need 6. Growing children should get 10-12 hours (more if they're really young) and as they approach adulthood, their needed amount of sleep decreases to around 8.

I got it from a whole bunch of health journals and stuff. I would link them but it is from a private database provided by my school. Basically they said that young adults brains aren't fully developed yet and they need more sleep...

Personally I think that the whole zero calorie thing is just one giant scam developed by corporations to lure in people to eat more of their products.
