| The text is loaded in layer 1 of the preview screen for each level in Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels. Here's a rip from a savestate of World 1-1's preview: ![]() I agree that this is unused. None of the fonts used by SMB or SMB:LL have apostrophes or quotation marks in them. There is an updated period in the 2bpp font used in the HUD, but that doesn't use the same tile values as the 4bpp font. @Cuber456: jdaster64 wasn't saying World 9 was unused, just that this special message doesn't appear when reaching it. |

| The text is at 7F53C-7F5BA in the original US version (without Super Mario World). Also, at 7F5BB-7F64E is this: ![]() It's the message that appears when getting a Game Over after reaching World 9 in the original FDS version. I'm not sure why the N is glitched (A quick search revealed this to be the case in the Super Mario All-Stars + Super Mario World ROM as well. I haven't checked the Japanese version yet.). Change 7F35D from 3C to BB to see it. |

There's more:
The ending text is present as well. Here's a mockup of what it would look like in-game: ![]() It doesn't seem to be a coincidence that the "100000 PTS. FOR EACH PLAYER LEFT" text's palette settings cause it to be outlined in a pinkish color unused by anything else in the game. The ending text for the original NES version of Super Mario Bros. is present too, from the data I've gathered:
![]() Interestingly, there are a couple of differences from the original text:
I'm still not done yet! ![]() Graphics for an older version of the Japanese Super Mario Bros. 2 logo are present in all versions of the game, in the Super Mario Bros. graphic set. Compared to the logo used in the final version of Super Mario Collection, the typeface is longer, there is no "For Super Players" subtitle, and the stars which mark how many times you've cleared 8-4 still exist. A reconstruction of the logo:

As BMF did, the parts I'm not so sure about have been placed in brackets. Pinna Park Under logo:
Pianta Village (as mentioned in the original post) Three rows at the bottom: Monte is the Japanese name for Pianta. Noki Bay Under logo:
To the left of the Noki emblem: Likewise, Nokis are known as Mare. To the right of the emblem:
Corona Mountain Black text on the left:
Green banner under the picture in the bottom right:

Great job, Skelux! 2014 looks like it is shaping up to be a revolutionary year when it comes to ROM hacking!
Here are some data locations for alternate forms/spawned monsters that do not initially appear in any formations: I will update this list as I find more. Also, it would probably be a good idea to pick this guy's brain. -------------------- |

I don't know, but there are a couple of observations I made while looking at the new map:
...and one question about the old map:

You're welcome!
On second thought, those paths don't look so weird. They fit pretty well with the red and white mushroom houses and the spade panel. Oh, and I forgot that detail about the paths. At the time of that last post, it had been awhile since I last played SMB3. Here's a video of my WIP Super Mario Kart patch which allows players to use the CP-exclusive items: -------------------- |

1. Yes. Here's the relevant code (assuming you're hacking the US version of SMB2):
There are multiple ways you could alter the code to make the Princess walk like the other characters. Here are two: One way is to change the character value in the compare statement at 1F395 from 01 to something meaningless, like FF. No character uses this value, so none of them will skip the bobbing code. Alternatively, you could change the value at address 1F397 in the ROM from 0C to 00. This changes the branch length to 0, meaning the bobbing code will always execute. 2. No idea. Sorry... -------------------- |
