Using the option more than once will switch between 4 different borders, one of which is the a test border. CGB Test and V Effect are gone, only a single ret for each of these. Creating booster packs works as far as I have determined. There is some wacky code in there for sure (a code that shifts a checksum over 9 bytes by 9 bits, which looks like it might have served a different purpose), but as far as I can tell, it actually works pretty well. It basically tests out if the random pack creation works. There are several tables in the rom that determine what cards can be added to a random deck and this menu can be used to test all of these table entries. Quit works, but as there is no routine to quit to, it will just boot up the rom once again to the same menu (however, it will reinit it). All the other options do what they say. Spr test works differently from what you described. A will change between animations of people events, left and right will decrease and increase the sprite number, up and down will decrease and increase by 0x10. Start and B will actually do nothing, while Select quits. cYa, Tauwasser -------------------- |

| I gave a rough translation of 6 in the other topic. 8: 4th Year 4th [day of the month] 4 o'clock [am/pm] 44 mins. 9: 4th [day of the month] 4 o'clock [am/pm] 44 mins. 10: 4 o'clock [am/pm] 44 mins. Presumably those are the times when the messages occurr? What do you expect for 8? Somebody is obsessed with fours. cYa, Tauwasser -------------------- |

Then it would start communicating and check if the other end is a special cartridge and boot into a different menu to edit the save. However, from my understanding, a system like this was not employed outside of Japan for Pokémon Events. cYa, Tauwasser -------------------- |

Wouldn't this be the preferred way for HSV? We learned at Uni that sliders do not suffice because humans can judge percentages (resp. the color change by some percentage) very poorly, hence this graphical representation.![]() cYa, Tauwasser -------------------- |

Another option would be to do something similar to what I have done with CGB Bootstrap ROM. Basically, everything is text, but styled differently, like: Ⓐ + Down. I don't think images are a good option for this. First of all, usually people will look for button colors, button styles when looking at images. Since these are to be used for a wide range of consoles across different regions (remember the SNES buttons were changed), I think it's fairly certain that the buttons would not fit all systems, so you'd have a mix of articles using text-only versus articles using image-only approaches. Secondly, I think having plain text or plain text accompanied by an image would be fine. However, only an image might be confusing for all people that use text browsers, are colorblind or just don't get that their yellow C button is meant by some graphic. Also, remember that graphics don't scale with text, so this would rule out all image-only approaches. Lastly: Originally posted by Aoi This would be a very generic name and I would be against something like this. A "code" could really be anything, ASM code, a Gameshark Code, a button combo, you name it. Also, StringUtils is still not installed or maybe it was broken by an update. So pretty much, currently, you cannot code a string replace template. You would have to use a template with select cases and do every button one at a time. cYa, Tauwasser -------------------- |

Originally posted by Teflon Well, I would like to mention that the Red & Blue page is so messy because the games are so messily coded and the whole situation with different releases in different regions is not easily captured. I tried to mitigate this by crating a common page for RBGY under which content that applies to some or all of these version can be combined, like the info about the Unknown Dungeon, which itself is supposed to be used as a template to insert the content at any given level inside another article, e.g. by using {{:Pokémon RBGY/Unknown Dungeon|level====}}, which translates to a page transclusion of the namespace-less article with level 3 (three equals signs). I think this approach could potentially be helpful for other video games as well. Instead of creating sub-pages for this relatively small piece of content, one could create a transclusion article, making sure the text is displayed the same everywhere. As for the rest of this discussion, a large part of clutter stems from people reporting trial-and-error findings. The whole "identifier" business in Red & Blue as well as multiple "if you use gameshark code XYZ to access invalid level data" cheats really don't make up for quality content. For instance, I hope a good example is the Pokémon Gold and Silver article. You will ― or so I hope ― only find relevant information there to access relevant data. Special explanation (for instance the tileset naming scheme employed by me, the uploader of the tileset images) is on a special page not cluttering the rest of the article. The same goes for all offsets and ASM code. Single offsets (like the text offsets) can simply be skipped, as can the information if routines have been out-commented. A bigger chunk of ASM went into a sub-page. I hoped to achieve creation of an informative article whilst preserving relevant info for anybody talented enough to look at the actual ASM coding and data. Generally, while creating and editing said article, I have had occasional doubts as to how technically deep articles should get in general. So far, nobody much of anything claiming irrelevance. A few guidelines would be good for that matter. Also, while it was low-key for a while, I still am very much in favor of creating a template as discussed here. While I certainly do not want to introduce Wikipedian quality assurance standards in here, I see much uninformed information floating around. I understand that most 3d-titles, for instance LoZ titles on N64, are very hard to debug/hack or get the information out of as a person simply interested in the matter, but not deeply immersed into it. Nevertheless, IMO this doesn't make up for guesswork sold as fact. cYa, Tauwasser -------------------- |

Originally posted by Imajin In my opinion, yes. IMO it's plain-text information. Originally posted by Imajin First of all, there is no such thing as a "Unicode entity", so I'm not sure what you mean. In case you meant to say HTML entities: That's a specialty of this board and doesn't affect the wiki. If a textbrowser properly supports Unicode (API calls, really) and uses the OS's underlying shaping engine (API calls, again) to render text, this will work. I know Windows XP and above and various Linux distros (Ubuntu for sure) can render it properly. I would hope Mac OS does so as well. Originally posted by Imajin I have personally never experienced any utility swapping Unicode character names for codepoints it won't show. Worst case, you can get the "no glyph" glyph after A, so there'd be a little box. Still, we live in 2011 goddammit, everything that doesn't support Unicode already, but thinks it has to treat everything as ASCII or ANSI is seriously out-of-date by a long shot. Originally posted by Imajin Which is funny, because my firefox surely does not resize images in text that are given a absolute pixel size, because... you know, it's a absolute pixel size. Just a few months ago, I corrected some Wikipedia pages, because some users had thought it was appropriate to do the same there. Usually, pictures that get resized with text are inside an element that is defined by relative font sizes (such as "width: 3em;") and then the image is set to fill that element. This is clearly not the case for images that get inserted via regular wiki syntax. cYa, Tauwasser -------------------- |

| See, and stuff like this is the reason I want to have that "unverified" box. This is likely just a bug. There are no connections and that's why it is pulling up random data as connection data. There is nothing to prove beyond that there is a bug that makes this happen. Much less to post videos of this discovery on Youtube and proclaim the programmers had this in mind all along... cYa, Tauwasser -------------------- |

| So I guess you're not in favor of your dad having been pressured to marry a woman and live a life he doesn't feel comfortable with. He may be homosexual, get over it. It's not a crime. The only thing here is that he cheated his wife, basically. Again, I think being wound up in a situation when one cannot confess his sexual desires freely and being constantly pressurized to be hetero might lead to this. All in all, your parents should probably have a good long talk, without your mom spewing bullshit at him and then divorce and get over it. You're still his child, he's still your dad. Don't make a huge deal out of it. Basically, he probably was at a crossroads in his life and chose the turn that was expected of him but didn't make him happy. It happens. Also, the whole porn thing might just be your exaggeration. If you're so disgusted, just ask him if he's in it. Personally, I would expect gay men to watch gay porn and maybe have some of it lying around. Also, it's nice of you labeling the folder "evidence". Now you just need to decide for what crime... Because, honestly, possessing pictures of gay-looking (that surely doesn't hold up in court!) men and pictures with female co-workers aren't a crime. The only thing that could possibly be a crime is faking diplomas (if they are real or supposed to be mistaken for real ones) and that one isn't settled in divorce court... So yeah, it might be hard to accept, but having a good talk with your dad is pretty much your only viable option to get some answers. Of course, you shouldn't be stuck-up about it. cYa, Tauwasser -------------------- |

Originally posted by Gig That was my whole point. It is not evidence for anything to do with divorce court. Having gay porn can be explained in numerous ways, including lending the USB stick, lending the laptop etc. All the other material was labeled as explicitly not showing the father in any sexual situation at all. Even when fighting over a settlement for divorce, he would not have to explain any of that, because last time I checked, you did not have to justify a divorce when no party contests it. Division of property can be settled mutually and in many cases is. Originally posted by Gig "Stuck up" referred to restricting oneself while asking questions here. I think even when the topics move towards sexuality etc., holding back is the wrong approach. Originally posted by Gig So, umm... Apparently I was banned? Originally posted by Pandaren Why would he need evidence of illegal activities, anyway? As I see it, if you illegally get the info, it might be rejected in court. However, when you allege it in court, the information will have to be revealed in a legal manner. Any illegal activity then will be prosecuted by the people, and not by family members. Indeed direct family members have the right to remain silent on the whole issue. Which might pose a problem when a possible other family branch emerges out of this allegation. Originally posted by Arp1033 Because his marriage might be shattered, yet he still loves his son and trusts him? @Cirvante: I didn't mean to offend you, yet the biggest issue you had in your first post was the possible homosexuality. I don't think a good case can be made against your dad from an objective point of view. Leading institutions of psychology have made it very clear in recent years that sexual orientation is not a choice and being pressured to lead a "normal", ergo in this case heterosexual life. This naturally leads to a sort of escapism from this life in the form of a "stuck SUV", "having to work late" etc. However, in your later posts it became apparent that support for immediate family is dwindling. If he doesn't pay child support or support his family, that's a whole other issue. So, in short, I don't think engrossing yourself in apparent adultery is a good venue to for divorce court, simply because a good case can be made about psychological pressure and the like. I think the thing to learn from such an experience is to set up a prenuptial agreement. It's very fashionable to do in Europe these days, because child support and settlements for spouses would all be neatly organized and regulated then. Anyways, best of luck with the whole situation. cYa, Tauwasser -------------------- |

| Maybe they designed their graphics over some text graphics and just never assigned those tiles to graphic data? If they were using a utility with layering capabilities, they might have had some scratchpad or pre-made graphics to help them in that place and didn't necessarily register that the tiles were unused. Also, it might have been while compiling the assets to gfx data, that just nothing filled this buffer and the stuff before in there happened to be some text gfx data, so it got copied into there. cYa, Tauwasser -------------------- |
