Was in eighth grade band class and at lunch before that, where some kid was like "Some plane hit one of the twin towers." Watched the news through a fuzzy broadcast channel on the tiny 1980s-era TVs they had in every room of the school in the band room, saw the second plane hit.

Most of my classes that day were practically canceled; every teacher postponed the lesson for the next school day.

It varies a lot in this area. I tend to call it pop most of the time, and a lot of people around here say soda, too, but everyone seems to know what you're talking about.

It gets worse in areas where everyone says Coke to represent all types of soda/pop.

I drive. Old 1990 Accord, but it still runs great, and handles well, though the body is not in such great shape, and the AC doesn't work (it just blows air around, it needs a freon recharge) but I love my old car.

I just ... don't like driving places unless I absolutely need to. Otherwise it feels like wasted gas and wasted time.

Plus ... I've been driving for four years, and I still have a perfect record. No tickets, no accidents. Despite living in one of the worst towns in terms of traffic in Ohio.

I've not yet needed to travel very long distances, so ... I dunno what I would do without a car. I don't have a bike, so I'd get a ride from someone else. I'd walk if I absolutely had to.

I'm sorry! There's not a thing I can do about it.

If you freely let me join your board, I can't be responsible for the consequences.

A Mac Plus. 8Mhz Motorola 68000, 4MB RAM, external 80MB hard disk, also read 800k floppies. 9" bitmapped display.

I loved that thing when I was growing up, even though it was so horribly slow.

Holy crap. I marked the whole board as read this morning and I come back to see what's gone on tonight, and it's like WHOAOMG there are a lot of new posts.

It's a bit overwhelming.

For some reason my family felt it was necessary to have a 15Mbit down, 1 up cable connection, uncapped. (Due to ... unique circumstances, we actually get it at a pretty big discount.) I'm going to seriously miss it when I move out.

Sure, we do have like ... ten different Internet-enabled devices all routed through a hub and a central router to one modem ... but the extra speed does not necessarily mean extra bandwidth, and the connection has never ever been terribly reliable. It tends to stop working for small periods, maybe 5-6 seconds, and then kick in again, completely at random, for everyone.

Around 3am, though the past few days I've been getting tired more early on ... all this staying up too late is catching up with me.

You people have boggled my mind.

Boggle is actually a pretty terrible game.

Oddly, this thread reminds me of Mokisor. He's the coolest, you know, and he's also the prophet of the clams; he's always saying that they are coming to be his friend, but that everyone else should watch out for them.

After all, they got Kyargu's leg that one time because he didn't heed the warnings.

Yeah, I remember you wrote that message from the bunker but you never explained how you got there.

Hammer is pretty neat, actually. I wasn't expecting it to be that simple to figure out, but I've also made a few (very) simple maps with it.

Runs fine for me in CrossOver, but that uses wine and has DirectX support. If you're running it in a virtual machine, there's no guarantee that it will work, but my MacBook Pro is older than yours and it is most definitely powerful enough to handle it.

Out of curiosity, I'm going to see if it will run in VirtualBox. Probably not since VB doesn't support DirectX terribly well yet (thus things that require WDDM like Aero in Vista or Windows 7 won't work) but I have had some success with some older games.

I am downloading HL2: DM to my virtual machine now to test.

edit: I am not exactly sure why you hate your MacBook Pro so much, other than having some hardware problems, but I know of some people that would kill to have one. It's a perfectly good machine, and complaining endlessly about it when you don't know how to use it, like it's the machine's fault, is not going to do any good.
