Google Calendar for me. Apparently you can upload your own background image to it these days, bit I'll probably end up sticking with the default appearance.

Desktop is always on. There's no real reason for me to keep it on other than to idle in IRC, but I do anyway.

Laptop is always "on", meaning I never shut it down -- but it is asleep when I'm not using it.

Server, of course, always on.

While happily playing a fullscreen game...

HEY WINDOWS NEEDS TO RESTART TO INSTALL UPDATES!

I've made it stop doing this now, but it certainly was annoying.

I generally idle in #x when I'm at school (where my desktop is), but usually Tina's the only one saying anything. I'm a rather quiet person anyway, though, so I usually don't say anything even if there is a discussion going on...

Posted on 01-03-10 10:38:07 PM, in What browser(s) do you use? Link
Firefox nearly all the time (Currently 3.6b5). I like my extension collection far too much to get used to a new browser.

I use Chrome to play with Google Wave on my laptop since my laptop's rather slow and its Javascript engine is faster than FF's, but that's the only exception.

Posted on 01-04-10 10:38:26 AM, in So what's your favourite programming language? Link
PHP: It's my favorite for doing Web-bases stuff, as well as hacking together a quick CLI script to do something. I like it because of all the global functions you can just use; it's just so handy to be able to use (albeit inconsistently named) functions without importing them first.

C#: Favorite for doing GUI stuff on Windows. Super easy to make interfaces, and the language itself is a lot like Java.

Python, for me, falls between PHP and C# in terms of things I like to do with it. I'm not as familiar with it yet, so I still prefer PHP for throwing a quick script together, but it's definitely replaced Java as my preferred language for doing command-line CLI (and cross-platform GUI) programs that would benefit from OOP, since PHP's object system was quite obviously hacked on as an afterthought.

wxPython's the only one I've ever made anything with. I haven't tried making any really complicated interfaces with it, though. I briefly tried TkInter, but it seemed rather low-level and I had trouble getting the hang of it.

I don't like Perl all that much, but I must admit it's regex syntax is very nice. I wish they'd make PHP's regex syntax look like Perl's instead of making you use stuff like preg_match and preg_replace.

I picked it up as well. For two bucks, I couldn't pass it up. Who knows when I'll actually get around to playing it, though...

The only time I've ever used a text-only browser is when I was working on a server that only had a CLI. I'll have to try w3m next time I have that need, though. I used Lynx, and I had trouble getting the hang of it. Come to think of it, I just assumed it didn't have mouse support. It very well might.

I've played it for a couple hours now, and I'm enjoying it so far. Diagnosis: $2 well spent.

The only thing that kind of annoys me is the lower-resolution pre-rendered cutscenes, but that's just a minor detail.

Tablets in general have never interested me. I never do any sort of drawing, and I hate touchscreen keyboards.

The fact that it runs a modified iPhone OS only makes me more certain I don't want one.

Primary monitor: 1920x1080. (I'd rather have 1920x1200, but for $75 on sale, it was too good to pass up.)
Secondary monitor: 1280x1024.

Laptop: 1024x600.

Needless to say, I only use my laptop when I'm away from my desktop.

Vector-based graphics will help solve that issue, although they won't really help for legacy programs. I guess when pixels get that tiny the OS will need some way to scale up an entire window seamlessly.

Posted on 02-05-10 02:01:29 PM, in After 14 years: GIMP is finally becoming usable! Link
I still prefer Paint.NET to GIMP for my basic image-editing needs, even though it has fewer features. I will welcome the interface change when Paint.NET isn't an option, like at work, where I use a Linux machine.

Too bad it won't be released for a while.
