Yeah ROSE never went anywhere. Gravity's first attempt at a 3d MMO. I don't even know if any good private server projects happened with it. Was it any fun or did it have that Gravity "feel"? (from the screenshot yes lol)

I looked on Facebook. He's now working for Tinder as a senior level programmer. So your instincts were correct. He landed on his feet, that's all the matters. I forgot Yahoo! bought them out. Obviously it didn't help them much.

Actually, what even is Gravity up to these days?

They had two version of RO2. The first one was deemed "Too different" So they took the engine and made one closer to RO1. It wasn't doing too well. It did so bad that there isn't even a kRO2 anymore. (having just iRO2 would have been blasphemy back in the old days.) They got partially bought out/hired a western company to run the stuff. It's doing better, but nothing like RO1 back in the day.

A good part of it actually. RO2 exists solely as a F2P model right now. Plus RO2 could never compete with FFXIV or WoW at any price. I can't really as a free + gatcha either, but it's probably the only way. Warportal (the company managing it now) is also doing a better job managing the IP so at the very least RO1 is still going strong. (It's still unique enough)

RO1 is F2P now as well with a Kafra "shop" that you guy buy stuff with real money.

That's about right. It's a handful of users. There was a jump in new users but nothing like here. I think your posting on twitter is part of the boost, and timing in general. I came back just randomly in my goal to be more social and less reclusive. Just happened to be at the same time.

I think it was also instituted back when this board was still (briefly) hosted on rustedmagick and/or in the /board folder (both of which are very old) ...
Either way, glad it's gone now. I should get in touch with whoever's still hosting those and see if I can get a copy of the database and files.

I may have been given a copy of those at some point in the last 5~ years. I'd need to look to see however. It could just as well be incomplete or defective. I never looked at the files). I could look sometime when I have a moment.

Or, at least as of late 2011-early 2012, you could do offers to get points instead of throwing real money at them.

I remember the point system, but My god that is awful. I was never aware of how you got the points other than paying upfront with cash. I don't think warpportal does anything like this now thankfully.
