I have now confirmed that there are indeed four enemies in Umihara Kawase that are not called in any level. We've done some research and apparently the game has four enemies, fully coded but never used. I made a video of each:
<object width="420" height="315"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/4SLTEzKCmPs?version=3&hl=en_US&rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="420" height="315" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object>
<object width="420" height="315"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/mgMI4AApyLE?version=3&hl=en_US&rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="420" height="315" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object>

<object width="420" height="315"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/vpj3WU_Y2Pw?version=3&hl=en_US&rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="420" height="315" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object>
Big thanks to my my friend who found the level header data.
Do you want to help make an Umihara Kawase editor? You can! Whether you're a programmer or a ROM hacker, check out our Wiki. Still a big work in progress but maybe one day we'll have an editor for this awesome underdog :> |

Exactly. There are six "what enemies are allowed in this level"-bytes. I just didn't change one of them and now the game thinks that it's Loading the right ones |

... that could very well be it, in fact! So, I guess that adds to the unused sprites as well! :>
I'm not sure how to test it, though. If I ever figure it out I'll let you know. |

*applause*
Can't try it, being a Mac user, but will do so if you elaborate on the programming language you used. If it's C# I can Mono this.
I also approve of the decompressor idea. Hacking Kirby's Dream Land 2 has been a dream of mine for some time now. |

| I'm pretty sure that level viewers for most Kirby Games (even DS ones) exist, but they aren't much of help. It was some Japanese guy. |

It doesn't exist, but...
I'll be brief. I want a Umihara Kawase level editor made really bad. All info regarding the game is our wiki and the loose personal notes I have.
I don't know if this falls to the grey area of the ethics of ROM hacking, but I'm willing to pay 100 euros to anyone who has the interest to dwell in the docs and code a functional level editor.
If this is unacceptable, I totally understand if this gets locked. If not, volunteer, and let's get this shit done :3
I found someone. Expect a Umihara Kawase Level editor WEB APPLICATION later this summer! |

| The DS version has the levels as individual files. The level files can be ctrl-F'd and found in the SNES rom. |

Normally I wouldn't show it off ahead of time, but I guess it couldn't hurt this time. But shhh! It's a secret to everybody.
oh my god
that looks absolutely amazing
Do you have an account at DKC-Atlas? Someone over there made very impressive 3D models from the DK universe. |

How does Snessor95 exactly find its samples? I mean, it can find practically any sample from any snes game with a push of a button; how does it know what exactly IS sample data? Is there a BRR format specification somewhere?
I want to get involved in a SNES sample utility development but I don't even know where to start.
Thanks. |

Apparently, my favorite tile editor doesn't want to work properly in OSX Mavericks.
Mavericks does not come with Java pre-installed, so you must install it manually through software update. Tile Molester worked fine in 10.8 on which I had an older version of Java (I think?) but now that I installed Mavericks, I'm screwed. No Java = no Tile Molester. Install Java = broken Tile Molester. UGH.
Does anyone have a clue how to install earlier versions of Java on Mavericks?
The official Java archive download page doesn't offer any downloads for OSX.
Everything else seems to work fine but as soon as I navigate the ROM, the view gets blown up to like 400%. Some kind of a displaying issue. |
