Not really posting because I can help but I'm really glad someone's hacking something as obscure as SMB2. You must be very determined. Good job, never give up!

Super Metroid has a huge tilemap array that starts from 0x60000. It defines tilemaps for most of the intro/menu/beginning of the game-stuff. Among these, there are four unused kinda engrish-y tilemaps:

There's also one unused title screen that's exactly like the final one, but with the "TM" missing.

There could be more of these but those are the only ones I found.

Refer to http://dkc-atlas.com/
A hacker under the name Simion32 has made extensive documentation, research and tools regarding the DKC series. I would almost compare it to what Lunar Magic is to SMW.

The ROM Hacking section kind of died down, as I did with it. I never really posted that much on any other board either so yeah.
I still visit the site every day, just don't post that often.

Well, I'm certain that the seller himself is not a scammer. Johan is a swedish guy, well-known among the prototype circles and has already brought some new protos to the table. What I can't guarantee though is the authenticity of the cart. Maybe he doesn't know? Still, I'd at least try to convince people with better screenshots. But then again, what do we know, maybe there aren't visible changes in the first parts of the game?

That is exactly what I did back a few times ago. The RLE-ish compression was pretty straightforward, but the ViBE Emulator can't play ROMs that have a bad checksum, so it was a tedious project. Needless to say, I didn't find anything level-related, but my lousy (and incomplete) documentation and visual representation of how the sprites work is readable here.

But aside from that, fantastic job yet again. Your work never ceases to amaze me and this time is no exception. VBWL is one of my favorite games ever and I would love to think this evolved into something great.

I'm no expert, but a File explorer is available for 3DS games. Maybe you could use that to check out if there's anything fishy in some game.

I'm not 100% certain, but these graphics were found in the DS version of Umihara Kawase among the SNES' graphics files. I don't recall this enemy at all. Its name is U3_NMZ.BIN. Catfish is ナマズ, "Namazu" in Japanese.

Hey Raccoon Sam, I'm no kind of hacker, but I played the SNES Umihara kawase A hell of a lot, theres definitely no catfish enemy in the normal game.

In the DS game...(since your wording was slightly confusing) there IS unlockable concept art which shows only 3 of that enemies sprites.

I actually got the DS game a week ago...what are the odds?

Wow, glad to hear :> I love the game. I also found these, and I don't recall them either. Do you?

You might be also interested in this. Mechaskrom and I ripped all the maps in the game.

Yeah, I thought so too, but as it turns out, those pop-in/out-blocks aren't even sprites. They are, in fact, tiles. Like, from the tileset. If you turn off the sprite layer, they don't disappear.
So, unused!

That clam enemy is in some of the later stages of the game and is VERY deadly, but maybe some of those sprites aren't used? (Does it ever open its mouth on solid ground? I don't know offhand, sorry)...I COULD go play the game to verify if you want, its not HARD for me or anything...

If you could, that'd be great :3 I don't remember them at all!

That pufferfish isn't in the snes game, PERIOD. The pufferfish in the DS game is a TON bigger for reference, in case you (somehow) didn't know that.

I don't know about that at all. Do you mean that the pufferfish is in the Shun-game?
These sprites were ripped from the DS game's SNES portion, which happens to be pretty much exactly like the SNES game itself. It's even got the same oversights in level design and I'm sure it's a well-made port. I ripped all the sprites from the game using mechaskrom's sprite ripper which converts the BIN-files to assembled PNGs. I ran every BIN in the game through it and these sprites (well there were a few other minor ones) I thought might be unused.
So, pufferfish, unused!

That last enemy confuses me...does it have the wrong color scheme or something? Did you rip it correctly? (Is that the right terminology?) There IS an enemy like that but with a NON-purple color.

I'm aware, but each BIN file has a palette amount byte and a unique palette (or, palettes) before the graphics data. For example, the snail has a palette amount of 2 because there are two kinds of snails in the game, brown and blue. This enemy also had a palette amount of 2; I know for certain that the first one is used but this palette is also defined in the unique palette data.
So uh.. unused palette?

Not to be annoying, but the unlockable concept art in the DS game also displays somethings like a jellyfish, a BLUE colored crab, and...some other kind of fish... that doesn't normally show up...perhaps theres more stuff for you to find?

Hmm, interesting, but I know I've ripped every sprite in the game. If you wish to check out each sheet individually (excluding the final boss and the player sprites), please observe this.

Thanks for the insight :>

Another interesting thing is that while the game has only 49 levels, there are 50 files in the 'map' folder. Maybe there is one unused level? Shame the level format is such a pain.
