Step 1: Grab Tahaxan and open your ROM.
Step 2: Look for suspicious files like SOUNDFILE.shg
Step 3: Open the file(s) in a Hex Editor and start experimenting / figuring the format out
Step 4: ?????
Step 5: PROFIT!

OBJ? Awright! To me, 3DS is nothing more than triangulation issues.

Anyone who wants to try their best with 3D modeling, below are some Free 3D modelers that support exporting to OBJ.

Yup. LZ77'd among the other titles.

Jigglysaint was the one who discovered Metroid Fusion's/Zero Mission's level format, so you should probably see his docs or something. The way I see it, the Metroid games on the GBA are no more than Wario Land 4s in heavy, heavy disguise.

I looked back on Wario Land 4 several months ago and found the TSA data. Didn't document it, but it's ridiculously simple.

Pretty interesting.
You should probably go for it yourself with a ROM and a corrupter and start documenting the game, and once you've got enough of them, post them to the public and hope for a group effort.
That's what I did with my SML2 findings (and ironically enough, failed) but you get the point.

I for one would be more than glad to help you out if you intend on tearing the game apart. Be sure to contact me either here or via PM/MSN/AIM/whatever if you need to.

As far as I'm aware, the Mario Landscaper was a work in progress by a certain member of this very forum.
No idea if he discontinued it though.

Posted on 09-16-08 09:40:38 AM, in Ripping images from Super Mario 64 DS for SM64? (last edited by Raccoon Sam at 09-16-08 06:42 AM) Link
DS uses its own file system, viewable and dumpable from with several tools, the primary one being Tahaxan. Use it to locate 'suspicious' files, like "PAINTINGS.dif", or something blatantly (or even slightly) obvious, and try to locate a color table (respectively, it'd be "PAINTINGS.hfd").
Look inside the Graphics file with Tile Molester and see what you can get, then try to figure out the palette. Usually the DS palettes/Color lookup tables are very simple, and if you've got the latest version of Tile Molester specifications (ironically enough, by me), you can already read NCLR files, that are very common Palette files in several Nintendo DS games.
Please note that this is all an assumption of how the files inside SM64DS are. There may or may not be a PAINTINGS, hfd or dif files.

So basically just fool around and if you find anything interesting or hit a problem, be sure to reply again.

Or if you're lucky, Tahaxan already supports all the formats you need and you can just printscreen your way to freedom. Unless Tahaxan has an export PNG feature.

Add a mario voice editor.

No one knows how to import the voices yet; no one even knows how to inport it and in what format.

What? I'm pretty sure the voices are uncompressed even in a non-extended ROM at the very end of the ROM.
You can listen/edit them if you import the ROM as RAW data to I dunno, Audacity or GoldWave or something like that. Don't ask me for the parameters though, I can't remember the exact ones but unless I'm not completely mistaken, they were Signed 16 bit PCM, mono and 11025 Hz.

As far as I'm aware, no ROM of it has been dumped.
There are Kiosk demos of several other games, but no luck with NSMB.

As much as I respect you as a fellow member of not only the ACMLM, JUL and MFGG community, but the ROM hacking scene as well, I dislike that kind of attitude very vastly.
From the tone of your post you make it look like you made some 'great realization' of how ROM hacking in general serves no purpose and underestimate its value.
Just because you developed an excellent editor does not give you the privilege to dodge all kinds of questions from these 'noobs'. Dumb people exist on the internet, and you can either help them out or ignore them. Complaining about how you're sick of the constant question stream won't help it and make you look like an elitist.
Don't get me wrong. I understand how anyone would get annoyed eventually by that, but you seem to take it a bit too far.
