I think when you put it numerically, like 04/25/10, then it makes less sense... but in the US we're used to saying "April 25th" as opposed to "25th of April", since it's shorter and easier and Americans are lazy. So when translated into a quick number format, we keep the fact that we refer to the month first.

I think. :s Makes sense to me at least. I always get thrown off when the day is first and the month is second, even if it makes sense in terms of order.

I use Matrix to collaborate on projects with some people. I don't have much to say about the protocol itself except that I admire the ethos and think owning/self-hosting your communications platform is important. I dislike Discord's walled garden approach and think it's a shame that the user experience is so good, because it's trapping people into a proprietary app.

The main Matrix client I've used is Element, and it's... not great. The user experience falls far short of Discord, and it doesn't have the aesthetic charm of IRC. I haven't looked for alternatives though.

In an ideal world IRC would be given the attention it deserves to bring nice quality of life features to the clients. Open protocols with any number of server and client implementations is the dream.

I haven't liked a Pokemon game since gen 3. Arceus took nearly every mechanic in the right direction and made Pokemon engaging again. It's a shame the environments and graphics are so terrible, because the gameplay itself is so dang good.

Biggest wins:
- Pokedex entries require completing multiple objectives
- Overworld-based catching of Pokemon without having to enter into battle
- Switching moves out whenever you want, on the fly
- Strong/quick style moves

They need to adopt these changes in the mainline games. I hope the newly-announced Scarlet/Violet will use these mechanics and continue to refine them.

So I'm 40+ hours in now. It's basically the perfect game. The open world mechanics fit like a glove onto the Soulsborne combat and leveling system. I've never had so much fun in a video game or been so engrossed so quickly.

Yeah, I did that a while ago! I love that area, Godrick is SUCH a fun boss. The sword birds are horrifying though.

The birds are brutal.

The only thing I use Windows for these days is my gaming PC. I'm hoping I can hold on to Windows 10 long enough that Valve's efforts in gaming on Linux cover my use case enough to switch for gaming completely.

Perhaps! I don't know how long that will be the case though. Microsoft is shady and wants to push people onto their latest platform, particularly to force us all into signing in to the OS with a Microsoft account, force feeding us built-in advertisements, badgering us to use their other software, etc.

I don't even like Windows as a platform, it's just the only option for smooth performance in a lot of games. That's slowly changing (mostly thanks to Valve), and I can't wait to be able to ditch Microsoft completely. It's just not totally there yet.

What did you do to customize it?

I grew up on Windows and loved the 2000/XP era. One of the worst trends in modern software is the removal of customization options. The old Windows Classic theme and ability to change colors, spacing, borders, etc. was so dang cool. It's a shame that's on the decline.

I'm just glad we have so many options in the Linux world.
